AIG underwriting teams help to find insurance solutions in areas including Financial Lines, Property, Casualty, Specialty Lines, Cyber and Multinational Clients. The goal is to unlock the full potential in each colleague – empowering our people to grow as insurance professionals and add more value to our customers and AIG. AIG has an exciting opportunity for a Underwriter to join our North America Specialty, “Energy Team focusing on property coverage for clients in the Oil and Gas, Mining, Construction, Power/Utilities and Chemical sectors


How you will create an impact:

  • Underwriting and managing an existing book of Energy risks and developing and underwriting a pipeline of new business opportunities across the country
  • Collaborating with peers in other regions and providing technical underwriting support on existing accounts in those regions, ensuring a consistent approach to market throughout the country.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions with brokers and clients
  • Communicating our value proposition with our brokers and clients and demonstrating our right to win
  • Identifying future industry trends, understand how they will impact ours our client’s business and developing new strategies around those trends
  • Communicating to internal stakeholders on the profitable of the portfolio
  • Providing superior customer service to brokers and clients.
  • Attend client/broker meetings, presentations and relevant industry events on behalf of the company.
  • Serve as a designated UW resource, exercising technical underwriting authority with regards to Energy lines within Canada
  • Ability to mentor and foster junior staff on the team.
  • Ensures the required standards of governance, systems and controls, and regulatory compliance are maintained.
  • Establish relationships with members of the distribution and zonal leadership teams.
  • Embrace a culture that promotes collaboration, diversity, and inclusion.

What you'll need to succeed:

  • Energy industry experience & technical acumen.
  • Preferred minimum of 10+ years Insurance Industry experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university
  • Advanced working knowledge of the Energy lines of business including product features, forms, regulatory environments and risks etc.
  • Major Client and complex risk experience, including knowledge of Energy market segmentation, portfolio management, acquisition and distribution
  • Strategic orientation, managing vision and purpose, including process excellence and system skills
  • Ability to rapidly evaluate, prioritize and select submissions to be underwritten.
  • Ability to analyze policy wordings
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current market conditions, trends and the ability to leverage that knowledge to give us right to win
  • Relationships with tier 1 and 2 brokers and the ability to develop new relationships
  • Demonstrated sales, marketing, and relationship building experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment making quick decisions while adhering to sound underwriting discipline
  • Willingness to travel 25% of the time

The base salary range for this position is CAD $88,000-$133,000 and the position is eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan. Your actual compensation will be dependent on your skills, experience, and qualifications.
