Job OverviewOur client is staffing Task Force Raptor, a systems development and IT modernization effort in direct support of the White House Communications Agency (WHCA). WHCA is the joint-service Department of Defense organization, aligned under the White House Military Office, that delivers secure voice, video, data, and audiovisual communications for the President, the Vice President, the White House staff, the United States Secret Service, and Presidential emissaries - at the White House, at Camp David, and anywhere in the world the mission travels. The systems this team builds are used to run that mission.
The Automated Workflows workstream takes the manual, paper-and-email processes the agency depends on and turns them into governed, auditable, automated workflows - equipment accountability, personnel and access actions, mission tasking, service requests, change and approval chains, and readiness reporting. Processes that run today on spreadsheets, email threads, and institutional memory become process flows, business rules, routing and approval logic, notifications, escalations, and system integrations that are fast, consistent, and traceable.
As the
Senior Test Engineer for Automated Workflows, you own the testing strategy for processes that people will rely on to do their jobs. You will design test strategies, plans, cases, and automation for process flows, business rules, routing and approval logic, notifications, escalations, roles and permissions, APIs, and integrations - and you will be the person who finds the exception path nobody thought about before a real approval routes to the wrong person.
Work is performed onsite in the Arlington, Virginia area, Monday through Friday during core business hours, in accredited Government spaces alongside the Government Product Owner and WHCA technical staff. The team delivers in sprints against a prioritized backlog, with real users a short walk away and short feedback loops. This is a funded position on a ten-year IDIQ vehicle running through 2030 and expected to extend beyond it - the roadmap is long, the funding is in place, and the mission does not go away with an administration.
This position requires a Yankee White clearance (Presidential Support Duty). Candidates must be U.S. citizens who currently hold an active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility and who are able to obtain and maintain Yankee White.

Responsibilities and DutiesThis role provides onsite support in the Arlington, Virginia area, Monday through Friday during core business hours. Duties will include:
- Plan, design, develop, execute, and evaluate testing activities for complex automated workflow and business process solutions.
- Develop and maintain test strategies, test plans, test cases, test scripts, test data, and automated testing solutions for workflow automation capabilities, including process flows, business rules, approval workflows, routing logic, notifications, escalations, scripts, APIs, system interfaces, and automated task orchestration.
- Evaluate and recommend automated testing tools and techniques, and develop or enhance automated test scripts and frameworks to improve testing efficiency, repeatability, and coverage.
- Perform functional, system, integration, end-to-end, regression, workflow, and acceptance testing.
- Validate workflow triggers, decision logic, routing, approvals, notifications, exception handling, user roles, permissions, data inputs and outputs, system interactions, and completion criteria to ensure automated processes execute accurately and consistently.
- Test positive, negative, boundary, and exception scenarios to identify defects, workflow failures, incorrect routing, process gaps, integration issues, and unintended outcomes.
- Document and track defects, analyze root causes and trends, and work with developers, Development Leads, Business Analysts, solution architects, system administrators, and cybersecurity personnel to drive resolution and retesting.
- Validate automated integrations with enterprise applications and services and verify that workflows operate correctly across interconnected systems.
- Review requirements, user stories, business rules, process diagrams, and acceptance criteria to ensure adequate test coverage and traceability between requirements and test results.
- Maintain testing documentation and provide test results, defect information, coverage, status, and progress reporting.
- Support testing throughout development, integration, deployment, upgrades, process changes, modernization, and continuous improvement of automated workflows.
- Perform testing across heterogeneous enterprise environments and platforms, including technologies such as Microsoft, AWS, VMware, and Oracle, validating automated process behavior and interoperability across existing, legacy, and emerging systems.
- Analyze test results, evaluate testing risk and coverage, identify potential process or technical issues, and provide testing status to program and Government leadership.
- Mentor mid-level test engineers on test design, automation, and defect analysis.
Required Skills and Experience - U.S. citizenship is required. Candidate must be eligible for a Yankee White clearance (Presidential Support Duty) in accordance with DoD Directive 5210.55 and DoD Instruction 5210.87, including a favorably adjudicated Tier 5 investigation.
- Candidate must currently hold an active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility and must be able to obtain and maintain Yankee White.
- Ability to work onsite in the Arlington, Virginia area, Monday through Friday during core business hours.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experience.
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in software testing, workflow testing, system testing, integration testing, quality assurance, or a related technical discipline.
- Demonstrated experience designing and executing manual and automated tests for business process automation, workflow solutions, enterprise applications, APIs, system integrations, business rules, approvals, notifications, and automated process orchestration.
- Experience testing workflow behavior end to end - triggers, routing, approvals, notifications, escalations, roles, and permissions.
- Experience testing across several of the following:
- API testing (Postman, REST Assured, SoapUI, or equivalent)
- UI and functional test automation (Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, or equivalent)
- Test automation frameworks and scripting (Python, Java, C#, JavaScript)
- Defect tracking and test management tooling (Jira, Azure DevOps, TestRail, Xray, or equivalent)
- SQL for data validation behind a workflow
- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment with testing integrated into the sprint.
- Ability to produce clear, traceable test documentation and defect reports.
- Professional interpersonal and written communication skills, and the judgment to operate discreetly in a sensitive, high-visibility environment.
- Demonstrated experience owning a test strategy and reporting quality risk to leadership.
Desired Skills and Experience - Experience testing ServiceNow, Microsoft Power Platform, Appian, Pega, or a comparable workflow automation platform, including ATF or equivalent platform-native test tooling.
- Experience validating audit trails, records retention, and non-repudiation requirements.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure Government, AWS GovCloud, or other DoD-accredited cloud environments.
- ISTQB, CSTE, or equivalent software testing certification.
- Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with performance, load, or security testing.
- Experience supporting federal Government IT, cybersecurity, cloud, or digital modernization programs.
- Prior experience supporting WHCA, the White House Military Office, DISA, the Executive Office of the President, or another Presidential Support Duty mission.
- Active Yankee White clearance, or a Tier 5 investigation adjudicated within the last three years.
- Experience working in DoD environments subject to RMF, eMASS, DISA STIGs, and Impact Level 5 or 6 hosting requirements.
- Experience in a fast-moving, small-team environment where the customer sits with the delivery team.
- Prior military service, particularly in a joint communications, signal, cyber, or C4 role.
