The Systems Engineer will execute Neon's requirements, architecture, and traceability work on active aerospace programs, applying the frameworks and processes established by the Systems Engineering Architect. This role owns requirements decomposition, system models, interface definitions, and verification traceability for assigned systems, from customer specification through certification evidence.
As a core member of a small Systems Engineering team, the Systems Engineer will deliver directly against program milestones such as PDR and CDR, strengthen Neon's system development process, and grow toward technical leadership as Neon scales.
Why This Role Matters - Requirements Engineering
- Author, decompose, and maintain system and subsystem requirements in Neon's requirements management tool, with traceability to customer specifications and allocation to hardware, software, and other engineering disciplines.
- Analyze customer requirements for completeness, verifiability, and ambiguity, and prepare clarification and change requests for customer review.
- Execute requirements reviews, baselining, and change impact analysis in accordance with Neon's work instructions and ARP4754A/B processes.
- Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
- Build and maintain SysML models of system architecture, behavior, and interfaces in accordance with Neon's modeling conventions.
- Link requirements from the requirements management tool to SysML elements to support allocation, trade studies, and design analysis.
- Keep models aligned with program baselines as requirements and designs evolve.
- Interfaces & Integration
- Define and control internal and external interfaces, including interface control documents (ICDs) with customers and suppliers.
- Support system integration planning and work with design and test teams to resolve integration issues.
- Verification & Traceability
- Develop verification plans, verification cross-reference matrices, and verification methods (test, analysis, inspection, demonstration) for assigned requirements.
- Maintain end-to-end traceability from requirements through design, analysis, and verification evidence across requirements management, MBSE, and PLM tools.
- Prepare systems engineering deliverables for design reviews and certification data packages.
- Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
- Work daily with mechanical, electrical, software, safety, test, and certification engineers to keep requirements and designs aligned.
- Support customer technical interchanges and requirements coordination.
- Identify process and tooling improvements, including opportunities to apply Neon's AI tooling to systems engineering workflows.

- 4+ years of experience in aerospace or complex systems development, with at least 2 years in a systems engineering role.
- Working knowledge of ARP4754A/B requirements development, flow-down, and verification processes.
- Hands-on experience authoring and managing requirements in a requirements management tool.
- Experience building or contributing to SysML models.
- Familiarity with DO-160, DO-178C, and DO-254 and their influence on system requirements.
- Strong written communication, including the ability to write clear, verifiable requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:- Familiarity with Flow, Cameo Systems Modeler, and Siemens Teamcenter.
- Experience with electromechanical actuation, flight control, or propulsion systems.
- Experience supporting PDR and CDR milestones on a certified aerospace program.
- Experience working with customers on requirements and ICDs in a Tier-1 or Tier-2 supplier environment.
- Experience working in startups or fast-paced environments where processes are still being built.
- Interest in AI/ML applications in systems engineering.
