Senior Software Engineer
This role reports to the Chief Technology Officer.
This is a full-time position open to candidates in Canada.
Compensation: $98,000 - $147,000
About the role
We're looking for a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer to join our engineering team. You'll work across our stack to build and maintain the tools independent publishers rely on every day. Our environment spans multiple languages and frameworks, so we need someone who's comfortable moving between them and picking up new ones as needed.
What you'll do
- Design, build, and ship features across the full stack, from database to UI
- Write clean, maintainable and well-tested code
- Collaborate with product, design and other engineers to scope and deliver work
- Debug and resolve issues across our systems
- Drive technical decisions and help shape our architecture
- Work directly with the CTO on technical strategy
- Scale and unify our systems and infrastructure to scale to hundreds of independent publishers
- Review code and mentor other engineers on the team
What we're looking for
- 5+ years of professional full stack software engineering experience
- Expertise in TypeScript, one or more frontend frameworks, and at least one other language
- Solid understanding of HTML and CSS
- Experience with relational databases and API design
- Ability and willingness to learn new languages and frameworks as needed: our environment includes Python, PHP, Ruby, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
- Understanding of application security best practices (secure coding, CSP, authentication/authorization, common vulnerabilities like XSS, XSRF, and SQL injection)
- Strong communication skills and comfort working in a remote, distributed team
- Confidence in writing unit and integration tests
- A track record of shipping and owning production systems
- Ability to own the full development lifecycle of a work product, whether that's a prototype (that may not have a design or be fully scoped) or a full production feature
- Comfortable using AI coding tools responsibly: able to leverage them for productivity while still understanding, reviewing, and taking ownership of the code you ship
Nice to have
- Experience in publishing, media, or subscription/membership platforms
- Experience with Python, PHP, or Ruby specifically
- DevOps experience with Heroku, Google Cloud, AWS, or Cloudflare
Applying For This Role
- We are committed to being a diverse and inclusive company. We encourage candidates with a range of perspectives, abilities, backgrounds and experience to apply. This job is fully remote with the possible, occasional, need for in-person gatherings in Vancouver. Applicants based anywhere in Canada are welcome to apply.
- If you think this role sounds right for you but you don't quite check all the boxes above - or you're more senior than this - please apply anyway. We'd love to hear from you! All applications are reviewed by humans, and we're happy to have a conversation with promising candidates.
- To help make sure your application doesn't get lost, please apply through bambooHR rather than sending a separate email or LinkedIn message. The application involves submitting your resume and answering a few questions. There is an optional cover letter if you want to add more context - you will not be dinged for skipping the cover letter if the questions already cover what you want to share.
- We are hoping to hire for this position at the end of September, 2026.
