Summary:

HII Mission Technologies is seeking a Senior Product Strategy Specialist to support the development of product strategy and investment recommendations across the Mission Technologies division. This role will directly report to the Director of Product Strategy as the second hire in Mission Technologies' new Product Strategy function. Working at the intersection of engineering, product management, sales, and executive leadership, you will translate warfighter needs, mission gaps, and acquisition signals into clear product concepts and investment-ready business cases.

You will co-develop mid-to-long-term product roadmaps, conduct rigorous investment analyses, and shape strategic partnerships across industry, government, and academia to accelerate product evolution within the division. As an all-around athlete, you'll toggle between deep-dive analyses and executive-level synthesis, tackling ambiguous, cross-functional programs that drive high-stakes decisions for the portfolio.

This role is a great fit for individuals in strategy and finance roles who are looking to pivot into more product-focused spaces. You'll have direct exposure to high-stakes decisions, strategic projects, and visibility with executive leadership inside the division and across the company as a key part of one of Mission Technologies' most strategic initiatives.

Why this role:
• Founding team member: Shape a new function from the ground up with high visibility and executive access
• Consulting skills + product ownership: Blend strategic thinking with tangible product outcomes
• Mission impact: Drive national security capabilities that matter
• Career growth: As the function scales, gain opportunities to build and lead a team

#LI-SF1

What You Will Do:
• Lead investment analyses and business cases: Structure and execute rigorous investment analyses for new product initiatives, including development and recurring cost models, addressable market sizing, competitive positioning, risk assessment, NPV/IRR calculations, and strategic alignment. Build and maintain financial models that inform stage-gate decisions, IR&D/B&P allocation, and capital investments.
• Translate capability needs into product definitions: Partner with business groups, the CGO, and CTO/Products and Innovation to distill warfighter needs, capability gaps, and emerging DoD requirements into clear product definitions, MVP scopes, and prioritized roadmap inputs aligned with business objectives.
• Co-develop product roadmaps: Drive the creation and iteration of mid-to-long-term product roadmaps for Mission Technologies, incorporating market trends, technology maturity, investment priorities, and strategic pivots. Ensure roadmaps are actionable and defensible to executive stakeholders.
• Shape portfolio strategy: Recommend portfolio actions-invest, pivot, sustain, or sunset-grounded in data, financial modeling, and clearly articulated assumptions. Present recommendations to division and corporate leadership with supporting analysis and rationale.
• Build and execute strategic partnerships: Identify, prioritize, and help structure partnerships across industry, government, and academia in coordination with MT executive leadership. Lead stakeholder engagement to negotiate mutually beneficial agreements that advance product strategy and divisional growth objectives.
• Enable cross-functional alignment: Brief group, division, and corporate executive leadership on product strategy, market posture, and investment recommendations. Partner with product line managers and business group leaders to embed strategic business-case thinking into product planning processes.

What We're Looking For:
• 6 years relevant progressive experience with Bachelors in related field; 4 years relevant progressive experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 10 years relevant progressive experience..
• Secret clearance eligible
• Technical experience
o Demonstrated ability to build investment cases, including addressable market sizing, cost modeling (development and recurring), IRR/NPV analysis, risk quantification, and competitive benchmarking
o Experience working with cross-functional teams (engineering, product, sales, finance) on requirements decomposition, trade studies, feasibility assessments, and roadmap prioritization
o Working knowledge of DoD acquisition pathways (Adaptive Acquisition Framework, OTA, MTA, Software Acquisition) and PPBE processes, or the ability to rapidly learn
o Familiarity with defense products, technologies, and industry trends (C5ISR, unmanned systems, AI/ML applications, etc.)
• Leadership & Communication
o Strong executive communication skills: Ability to synthesize complex analyses into crisp, actionable insights for senior leadership (C-suite, Board)
o Proven stakeholder management: Track record of influencing cross-functional teams and navigating complex organizations to drive alignment and decisions
o Comfort with ambiguity: Thrives in fast-paced, nascent functions with evolving priorities
o Proficiency in financial modeling (Excel) and executive presentation tools (PowerPoint, Tableau, etc.)

Preferred Experience:

  • MBA or advanced degree preferred, but not required
  • 6+ years of experience in a strategic role, preferably with exposure to defense, maritime, or technology focus areas; 3+ years in strategy consulting is preferred

What Success Looks Like:
• Within 6 months: Lead three to five major investment analyses that inform division-level capital allocation decisions
• Within 1 year: Co-develop and co-own product strategy roadmaps for a business unit; establish three or more critical strategic partnerships
• Ongoing: Be the "go-to" strategist for ambiguous, high-stakes problems across the division
