Senior Mechanical Engineer | Philadelphia, PA

IMEG is hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Philadelphia, PA, to lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for moderate to complex mechanical projects. This role leads design efforts with limited support required from senior staff for larger, high-complexity projects.

You will support project management, engineering analysis, design, implementation oversight, project budgets, training and mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration for vertical building projects. The team supports education and cultural-institution work, with HVAC as a focus, while advancing high-performance, energy-efficient design aligned with MEP2050 and AIA2030.

What You'll Do

Technical Path
  • Lead analysis and design of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
  • Create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations using engineering software and tools in accordance with code requirements and IMEG standards.
  • Perform site assessments and prepare detailed analysis and technical reports.
  • Gather project requirements, communicate technical information, and build client relationships.
  • Review system designs, calculations, specifications, and project correspondence, applying IMEG quality control processes.
  • Provide technical training and mentoring and assist with resolution of field issues with limited support from senior staff.
  • Stay current with mechanical engineering trends, emerging technologies, and best practices, contributing to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG.
  • Prioritize safety and identify and mitigate potential safety risks associated with mechanical systems.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions and participate in project interviews and presentations.

OR

Project Management Path
  • Coordinate, oversee, and manage projects ranging in size and complexity.
  • Assist Project Executives and Client Executives with design scopes of work, fee calculations for proposals, and contract reviews.
  • Create project schedules with milestone targets and deadlines.
  • Serve as the point of contact for teams and clients.
  • Create monthly billings, submit financial information to Accounting, and update billing projections and estimated completion percentages.
  • Ensure designs meet owner, IMEG, and code requirements, and that quality control processes, milestone deliverables, and construction technical support are completed in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate design staff and project scheduling throughout design and construction, and schedule and lead progress meetings with documentation.
  • Conduct construction site visits, respond to client and construction concerns, and manage change orders and approvals.
  • Train, mentor, and motivate staff while building, maintaining, and developing client relationships.

  • Advanced proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
  • Advanced proficiency in technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics relating to mechanical design in HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems
  • Strong training, mentoring and leadership skills

Project Management Path

Required Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated leadership traits in the project management career path; ability to mentor, train, motivate, and lead others
  • Adept in the technical aspects of one's discipline
  • Mastery of technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics relating to mechanical design in HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems
  • Strong training and mentoring skills

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required
  • 7 years of experience minimum required, 8 preferred, in the building design consulting industry

Physical Requirements

  • Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pull
