You will focus on optimizing the developer experience from initial code commit to pull-request merge. You will architect enterprise-scale tools, pioneer cutting-edge AI integration, and eliminate workflow friction across the entire Card Technology ecosystem.

About the Role:

As a Capital One Senior Manager, Software Engineering, you’ll bring your unique and extensive experience, perspective and strong communication skills to work hand in hand with tech and business leaders to shape the future technical direction of Card Tech and beyond. 

You’ll help:

• Drive AI-powered Developer Productivity: architect and scale modern AI developer capabilities, such as local MCP integrations, token optimization techniques, and OpenSpec standards.

• Optimize the Inner Loop: standard developer environments and speed up feedback loops using Dev Containers, smart PR validation workflows, and automated code review optimizations.

• Enhance Enterprise Infrastructure: lead key initiatives around GitHub ecosystem management, internal library optimization, and developer tooling efficiency at enterprise scale.

• Lead and Innovate: partner closely with engineering leaders, product managers, and business stakeholder to turn developer friction into automated, high-impact solutions.

Your Responsibilities:

• Lead with technical expertise and a proven track record of architecting developer platforms, internal tools or enterprise CI/CD systems.

• Apply deep hands on experience to core tooling around containerization (Docker, Dev Containers), GitHub workflows, and modern software build systems.

• Build and contribute to AI and platform innovation with strong technical proficiency in LLM tooling, local AI integration patterns (MCP), token optimization, and API/spec frameworks.

• Foster strong engineering culture with a passion for developer advocacy, mentoring engineers, and setting technical standards across large engineering organizations.

• Directly lead a team of 6+ engineers to build solutions

• Participate in talent and succession planning, encourage innovation, implement cutting-edge technologies, elevate inclusion, offer out of the box thinking, celebrate teamwork, self-organization and diversity

• Bring passion to stay on top of tech trends, experiment with and learn new technology, participate in internal & external technology communities, and mentor other members of the engineering community

Basic Qualifications:

• At least 4 years of experience leading a team within an agile environment

• At least 4 years of experience providing direct people leadership including talent development, performance management, team building and succession planning

• At least 10 years of experience as a hands-on software engineer

• Knowledge of software engineering best practices including security, automated testing, continuous delivery (CI/CD), high-availability and system resiliency    

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with AWS, GCP, Microsoft Azure, or another cloud service

• Experience with full stack software development

• Exposure to financial/tech industry

• Bachelor's, Master’s or Diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or in related field

• Experience leading multiple teams 

• Demonstrated ability to influence senior business and product stakeholders (Director+) on strategy and roadmaps

• At least 5 years of experience managing relationships with Business and/or Product stakeholders, and/or external partners

• At least 10 years of experience contributing to application and/or data design, architecture and development

The expected annual salary range for this position is $202,400 - $231,000 This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
