DescriptionResponsible for the underwriting and risk assessment of complex commercial lease and loan transactions and for supporting the oversight of the underwriting process within an assigned line of business. Prepares and reviews underwriting analyses, approves transactions within assigned credit authority, and serves as a senior technical resource and mentor to the underwriting team.
- Reviews transaction terms and conditions of exposures generally between $1,000,000 and $25,000,000, including identifying the strength and experience of new and existing obligors and evaluating more complex credit structures
- Assists in managing and overseeing workflow and assignments of credit actions within the assigned area to ensure timely turnaround and appropriate use of personnel, in coordination with the Director of Risk & Credit
- Prepares financial statement spreads and reviews the adequacy of supporting financial information and the need to obtain additional and/or more current financial data
- Reviews key financial results, ratios and transaction structure elements including the adequacy of the debt service coverage and loan to value. Identifies any missing information or inquiries for credit decisioning
- Preparation of comprehensive Credit Offering Memoranda covering key aspects of financial and credit risk elements, obligor credit profile, etc., including determination of risk rating. Communicates with internal and external sources to request specific information required for analysis
- Reviews, evaluates and approves credit actions prepared by junior and mid-level underwriting staff within assigned credit authority, and makes recommendations to a senior level underwriting position for final disposition of transactions outside of credit authority
- Will participate in business opportunity meetings to determine potential investment interests
- Helps develop and maintain portfolio monitoring reports and analysis to support applicable lines of business and risk management objectives. Assists in ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of risk ratings
- Mentors, trains, and provides guidance to junior and mid-level underwriting staff, and may assist with performance feedback and development
- Serves as a backup to the Director on select management and workflow responsibilities as needed
- Responsible for compliance with Company policies and procedures
- Assists with departmental duties as directed by their manager
Qualifications/Education Requirements
- Concentration in Accounting and/or Finance preferred; required for applicants with no prior relevant work experience. Credit analysis and financial statement analysis experience required
- Proficient knowledge ability with MS Word and Excel. Financial spreading software a plus
- Strong to exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Minimum of eight (8) years foundational experience. Prior credit authority required; prior mentoring or lead experience preferred
- Bachelor's degree (BA, BS, BBA, etc.) from a four-year college or university required, with a concentration in Accounting and/or Finance preferred
