Role Overview

The goal of the Cboe Platform Engineering group focuses around building a scalable and secure foundations platform, enabling the Cboe operations, software engineering and application teams to deploy, validate, and operate their services in production, improve resiliency of the service and increase organizational efficiency by reducing operational toil and increase system efficiency through architectural evolution. 

The Senior Manager of Platform Engineering will play a pivotal role in driving the design, implementation, and management of our cloud-native infrastructure across both public cloud (AWS) and on-premises Linux environments. Reporting to the Sr. Director, Platform Engineering, this role will lead a team of platform engineers responsible for building scalable, secure, and resilient platforms — running workloads across hybrid infrastructure focused on outcomes.  

Your responsibilities will be:  

  • Lead and manage a team of platform engineers responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining cloud-native infrastructure across AWS and on-prem Linux/Kubernetes environments.  

  • Lead the architectural design of platform solutions across hybrid (cloud and on-prem) environments, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security best practices are incorporated.  

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand requirements, architect solutions, and ensure successful delivery of platform projects.  

  • Drive the adoption of infrastructure as code (IaC) principles and practices, leveraging tools such as Terraform and Pulumi to automate and standardize deployments across cloud and on-prem.  

  • Establish and maintain robust monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions to ensure the reliability and performance of the platform across cloud and on-prem.  

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development. 

  • Champion a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability within the Platform Engineering Team and across the organization. 

The ideal candidate has  

  • 8+ years of experience with major Cloud vendors including AWS, Google Cloud Platform and Microsoft Azure, with strong expertise in AWS.  

  • Hands-on experience operating cloud-native workloads on Kubernetes in both cloud and on-premises Linux environments.  

  • Proven experience leading and managing high-performing engineering teams in a fast-paced environment with a record of project delivery and architecture of production systems.  

  • In-depth knowledge of cloud-native and platform architecture principles, best practices, and design patterns.  

  • Hands-on experience with automation tools such as Terraform, Pulumi, and Jenkins.  

  • Proficiency in container orchestration technologies, especially Kubernetes.  

  • Strong understanding of Linux systems administration, networking, security, and compliance requirements across hybrid environments.  

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.  

  • Thorough understanding of the financial markets a plus.  

  • AWS certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, and/or Kubernetes certifications (CKA/CKAD), or equivalent, are highly desirable.

Salary Ranges (applicable for US locations only)

At Cboe, we are committed to providing a competitive, transparent, and market‑informed total rewards program. The anticipated base salary range for this role is $170,000-$220,000 in Kansas, $187,000-$242,000 in Chicago, and $212,500-$275,000 in New York, with actual compensation determined by job‑related factors such as skills, relevant experience, education, internal alignment, and location.

 

 

This role may also be eligible for annual incentive compensation and, where applicable, participation in Cboe's long-term equity programs.
