SummaryCelestica is looking for a strategic Sr Manager, DFM and SMT Engineering to own the manufacturability screen inside our design ecosystem. In this role, you will lead a high-performing global team of DFM and process engineers across Richardson, Shanghai, and Penang. Your team will actively resolve complex engineering challenges-such as double-sided mixed VIPPO and advanced component spacing-within the design phase rather than pushing constraints downstream as manufacturing restrictions.
Detailed Description- Rule Set & Constraint Management: Own the core DFM rule set content, including component spacing, fabrication standards, panelization, SMT process windows, materials, and underlying technical constraints.
- Portfolio Coverage: Plan and resource pre-DFM screening across all package portfolios while maintaining strict turnaround commitments.
- Governance & Review: Chair DFM finding reviews to establish disposition routes and define the required technical evidence to close out each finding.
- Automation & Software Integration: Encode DFM rules into Valor NPI and progressively integrate them directly into the primary design environment.
- Advanced Problem Solving: Partner with Process Development and site engineering to resolve long-standing constraints around double-sided mixed VIPPO, tight spacing, and rework capabilities.
- Site Alignment: Interface directly with site DFM teams so released design packages are checked once and avoid duplicate sign-off debate.
- Global Leadership: Mentor, direct, and grow engineering talent across our Richardson, Shanghai, and Penang hubs.
Deliverables Owned- DFM rule set content and official rule change proposals.
- Pre-DFM reports and centralized DFM findings registers.
- Comprehensive fabrication, SMT, and assembly design guidelines.
- Encoded Valor rules and automated design check workflows.
What This Role Is Not: This position sits inside the DFx Center of Excellence and is
not the site-level DFM function. You will not run the factory site's final Valor check on released packages or sign off on individual site buildability.
Key Success Metrics- Total pre-DFM portfolio coverage and turnaround times below targeted SLAs.
- Percentage of findings closed through concrete design or process changes.
- Reduction of repeat DFM findings across product platforms.
- Expansion of the automated checklist share within the design environment.
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies- Deep technical expertise in SMT manufacturing, PCB fabrication, and panelization rules.
- Demonstrated success leading distributed DFM or process engineering teams across multi-site global organizations.
- Hands-on familiarity with Valor rule encoding and ECAD/DFx design tool integration.
Physical Demands- Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
- Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
- Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
- Occasional travel may be required.
Typical Experience- 11 to 14 years of relevant experience
Typical EducationBachelor degree or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Educational Requirements may vary by Geography
