The Role

Scotiabank's Global Sustainable Business (GSB) team is seeking a Senior Manager, Climate Change to support the Bank's response to climate- and energy transition-related opportunities and risks. The role partners with business lines and corporate functions to advance climate strategy, adaptation and resilience initiatives, client engagement programs, climate-related finance methodologies and enterprise thought leadership. Reporting to the Director, Climate & Energy Transition, the Senior Manager will translate emerging climate, energy transition, regulatory and market developments into executive insights, practical tools and client-focused solutions that support business strategy, risk management and the Bank's long-term objectives.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will be involved in:

  • Supporting the development and implementation of Scotiabank's climate strategy, adaptation and resilience priorities, and executive-level strategic initiatives.
  • Translating emerging climate, energy transition, regulatory and market developments into clear insights, recommendations and executive-ready briefing materials.
  • Developing the Bank's climate adaptation and resilience approach through research, benchmarking, stakeholder engagement and strategic recommendations.
  • Developing client engagement frameworks, sector guidance, practical tools and training to enable bankers to identify climate-related risks and opportunities and support client conversations.
  • Leading the development and continuous improvement of climate-related finance methodologies, governance and reporting, including Scotiabank's Energy Supply Ratio (ESR) and other climate-related finance commitments.
  • Supporting dashboards, management reporting and governance processes that enable senior leadership oversight of climate-related initiatives.
  • Developing Board materials, executive briefings, public disclosures, speaking notes, issues notes and thought leadership content for internal and external audiences.
  • Supporting business lines with sustainability-related expertise, as appropriate.
  • Supporting enterprise-wide projects involving business lines, Risk, Finance, Legal, Communications, Government Relations and other partners, including governance, stakeholder coordination and implementation.
  • Designing and delivering climate-related training and educational resources to build capability across business lines and support enterprise implementation.
  • Monitoring emerging climate, energy transition and sustainable finance trends, regulatory developments and peer practices to identify strategic implications for the Bank.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed? We'd love to work with you if you have the following:

  • 7+ years of experience in climate strategy, sustainability, public policy, consulting, financial services or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of climate-related financial risks and opportunities, climate-related finance, disclosure frameworks and financial sector regulation.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information into executive-ready recommendations and practical business solutions.
  • Experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives and influencing stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent strategic initiatives and competing priorities.
  • Excellent writing, analytical, presentation and communication skills, including experience preparing Board and executive-level materials.
  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills across business lines and corporate functions.
  • Undergraduate degree required; postgraduate degree and experience supporting senior executives or Board reporting are considered assets.
