Job Description

Title: M&E Senior Cost Consultant - Mechanical and Electrical Estimating/Cost Planning/Quantity Surveying

Location: Kelowna, BC / Vancouver, BC / Toronto, ON

NOTE: This position is being hired for any of our Canadian office locations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain construction cost estimates/cost plans at all project design milestones from Feasibility Stage through to Construction Documents, with a focus on mechanical and electrical estimating.
  • Conduct detailed cost analysis and provide accurate estimates for materials, labour, and other expenses.
  • Prepare comprehensive cost estimates and budgets for projects including taking ownership of and presenting the final cost plan/estimate.
  • Advise clients on cost-saving measures and solutions.
  • Evaluate and analyse project plans, specifications, and contracts.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, project managers, and stakeholders to our project deliverables are met.
  • Collaborate with subcontractor trades to update pricing and refine estimates.
  • Conduct price benchmarking using market data, historical rates, and executed contract rates.
  • Evaluate bid specifications, review plans, and formulate overall pricing and scheduling strategies.
  • Prepare tender reconciliation documentation and presentations for clients.
  • Lead and implement value management / value engineering reviews.
  • Construction oversight, reporting and coordination.
  • Document control, contract administration, and owner liaison
  • Post-contract cost management including change order analysis, monthly cost reporting and payment certification.
  • Build and foster relationships with new and existing clients.
  • Ensure all deliverables are met to satisfy client expectations.


Qualifications / Experience
  • 7 plus years' experience delivering mechanical and electrical pre-construction and post contract construction cost services.
  • A recognized University Degree in Quantity Surveying or related field.
  • Experience in preparing Electrical and Mechanical cost estimates estimating
  • Membership of Relevant Professional Organizations such as the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (CIQS); and/or The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) is preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and documents and identify any scope gaps when completing an estimate.
  • A commitment to continuous professional development.
  • A high level of commercial awareness and exceptional communication skills.
  • Strong analytical capabilities and advanced organizational skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Proven experience in managing and successfully delivering quantity surveying mandates.
  • Demonstrated first-principles estimating experience.
  • Strong drawing and specification interpretation.
  • Advanced computer skills, particularly in Excel for database and spreadsheet development and maintenance. Intermediate skills in Microsoft Projects, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with estimating software and tools. Knowledge of and experience using CostX is an asset.
  • Full Canadian working rights (Citizen, Permanent Resident or valid Work Permit).
