Description & Requirements

Skate is looking for a Senior Live Service / Economy Designer. This designer will help shape the long-term player experience through progression, rewards, events, challenges, battle pass-style systems, cosmetic economies, and live service loops. We are looking for a Senior Designer with free-to-play experience who understands how to balance player motivation, progression pacing, reward value, economy health, and business goals. You will partner with design, product, analytics, engineering, content, production, and QA to build systems that support retention, engagement, monetization, and player trust.

Responsibilities
  • Design and tune F2P live service systems including progression, rewards, events, missions, challenges, battle pass-style systems, and long-term player goals.
  • Build and maintain economy models that support player expression, cosmetic collection, content pacing, reward value, and sustainable live operations.
  • Tune earn rates, sinks, faucets, reward structures, pricing, progression pacing, and cosmetic value.
  • Partner with product and analytics to define goals, evaluate performance, and identify opportunities to improve retention, engagement, and monetization.
  • Create clear design documentation, tuning sheets, economy models, implementation notes, and handoff materials.
  • Work with engineering, tools, and technical partners to move systems from concept into software.
  • Support live operations through event planning, reward refreshes, content updates, economy health reviews, and post-launch tuning.
  • Champion player-first live service design decisions and explain tradeoffs to partners and leadership.

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in live service, economy, progression, or systems design.
  • Direct experience working on free-to-play games.
  • Experience designing or tuning progression, rewards, events, missions, battle pass-style systems, or game economies.
  • Experience with retention, monetization, player motivation, progression pacing, and reward psychology.
  • Experience building and maintaining economy models, progression models, tuning sheets, or reward models in spreadsheets (can maintain complex spreadsheets).
  • Comfortable using data to evaluate design performance and make tuning recommendations.
  • Able to break complex systems into clear levers, relationships, risks, and player outcomes.
  • Documentation skills, including feature specs, economy models, tuning notes, and implementation support.
  • Comfortable working with engineering, tools, or technical partners to bring systems into the game.

Nice to Have
  • Experience with cosmetic-driven F2P economies, including stores, cosmetic progression, rarity, collection, customization, pricing, and reward value.
  • Experience with battle passes, season passes, event passes, reward calendars, quest systems, or cosmetic reward tracks.
  • Experience with skateboarding or action sports games and culture, creator culture, or player expression systems.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The ranges listed below are what EA in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in these locations at the time of this posting. If you reside in a different location, a recruiter will advise on the applicable range and benefits. Pay offered will be determined based on a number of relevant business and candidate factors (e.g. education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, or business needs).

PAY RANGES

* British Columbia (depending on location e.g. Vancouver vs. Victoria) *$114,300 - $156,200 CAD

Pay is just one part of the overall compensation at EA.

For Canada, we offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, paid top-up to EI/QPIP benefits up to 100% of base salary when you welcome a new child (12 weeks for maternity, and 4 weeks for parental/adoption leave), extended health/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and equity.
