Senior Litigation Attorney - Complex Litigation

Department: Legal Operations

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Remote- Florida

Description

Jimerson Birr is seeking a Senior Litigation Attorney for our Complex Litigation team; a decisive, fast-moving litigator who takes ownership of a matter the moment it lands and drives it to resolution.

You cut through complexity, take command of strategy, and keep matters moving. You are comfortable making quick calls under pressure, and equally comfortable showing your work when someone asks why.

What separates a strong fit here from a strong résumé is this: You think in systems. You are not only closing your own files; you are sharpening the plans, templates, and playbooks that let the attorney behind you close theirs faster and better.

You want autonomy, variety, and real influence over how the work gets done, not just permission to grind through more of it.

At JB, "great lawyering" isn't defined by hours worked. It is measured by execution against the plan, disciplined delivery, and visible progress and backed by systems that create clarity, consistency, and client trust. That structure exists to remove friction, not to slow you down. The attorneys who thrive here treat it as leverage and then make it better.

If you are the kind of attorney who steps into the arena ready to move, lead, and build, this is exactly where you belong.

You'll know this is the right seat if:

› You get restless when a file sits still and you do something about it without being asked.

› You would rather fix the process that caused a problem than handle the same problem again next quarter.

› You want to own the client relationship, not hand it up the chain.

› You want feedback that is direct, specific, and tied to outcomes.

› You want to build something; a team, a practice, a better way of doing the work ....not just bill a year.

What You'll Do

Own the Matter

Own your matters day to day: scope them, budget them, direct the timekeepers on them, and keep them inside the validated plan. Your Team Leader sets case mix and priorities; you run the legal execution.

Serve as the primary client contact on most of your matters, with the judgment to escalate when risk, budget, or strategy shifts.

Draft and argue motions, take and defend depositions, manage discovery, and carry matters to hearing or trial - as a strong second chair and a developing or actual first chair.

Build the Bench and the System

Mentor junior attorneys and paralegals. Delegate real work, then follow up with instruction and feedback that actually moves someone forward.

Improve the machine. Bring at least one concrete improvement a week to our matter plans, templates, technology, or legal products. Shaping the system is part of the job here, not a side project.

Hold the line on timekeeping, service commitments, budgets, and on-plan execution: in your own work and in what you delegate.

Deepen the Client Relationship

Spot what's next. Identify and document adjacent legal needs as you work; clients rarely have only one problem, and you are positioned to see the others.

Run disciplined alignment conversations at the start of a matter and throughout, so scope, timeline, and expectations never drift.

Stay in front of your clients with proactive outreach.

Common Matter Types Include but are not limited to:
  • High exposure business litigation
  • Real estate development disputes
  • Contested Mortgage foreclosure
  • Construction Litigation
  • Complex commercial matters

What You'll Bring
  • JD + active Florida Bar
  • 5+ years of litigation experience, commercial preferred, with evidence of sound judgment under pressure
  • Strong advocacy: motions, depositions, hearings, negotiation, strategy
  • Ability to act independently while collaborating within a structured system
  • Comfort making fast decisions without hand-holding
  • Natural persuasion, strong communication, and a confident presence
  • A track record of managing matters independently - budget discipline, accurate scoping, and reliable delivery without daily supervision.
  • The ability to act decisively on your own while working inside a structured system, and the instinct to improve that system rather than route around it.
  • Analytical rigor: you form positions from facts and evidence, and you can defend them without making it personal.
  • Clear, direct communication with clients, courts, opposing counsel, and your own team.
  • Comfort delegating real work and following up on it.

Preferred Qualifications
  • First-chair trial or appellate experience
  • Experience in complex commercial, class action, consumer, or eminent domain litigation

Join a dynamic team that values professional growth and excellence in legal service. We offer competitive compensation, professional development opportunities, and a supportive work environment dedicated to fostering your success.
