We are currently seeking a Senior-level Instrumentation and Controls Engineer with strong interest in being part of a purpose-driven organization that is focused on helping our clients, colleagues, and communities thrive.

Our team is regularly tasked with some of the most interesting projects in North America, including PLC/SCADA or DCS deployments up to 250,000 IO and controlling up to a billion litres/day of liquid treatment. We regularly design for and support the latest technologies including Thermal Hydrolysis, and Combined Heat and Power applications, and have a focus on growing our analytics team which are changing the way we approach water treatment.

Your Key Responsibilities

A successful applicant will work with a multidisciplinary group of engineers and designers providing technical services to public and private-sector clients. Primary duties will include control systems engineering, process control strategy planning, automation designs, construction support services, and planning studies with detailed analyses. These designs will be related to water and wastewater treatment plants and related facilities. Experience with equipment selections, equipment and communication network layouts, and process control design coordination with other engineering disciplines is required. Candidates should be at ease with core aspects of PLC, HMI and SCADA system planning, design, programming, and upgrades.

The successful applicant is expected to be proficient in the following areas.

Design Activities, including:
  • Developing preliminary scope definitions, budgets, and staffing plans,
  • Field review and evaluation of existing equipment, control systems (hardware and software) and control panels,
  • Preparing studies, conceptual reports, and technical memorandums,
  • Conducting I&C engineering and analyses related to various water, wastewater, and industrial waste treatment facilities,
  • Supporting multi-disciplinary teams with engineering design projects and studies,
  • Developing construction documents (drawings, specifications, and schedules). Drawings for construction include: - Database driven Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID's),
  • Detailed network communication architecture diagrams,
  • Control panel details,
  • CCTV and Access Control System drawings, Point-to-Point Wiring Diagrams, and
  • Instrument installation details.
  • Development of technical specifications, instrument datasheets, and detailed control strategies / narratives, and
  • Senior review and evaluation of - Electrical schematic diagrams and plans.
  • Review and evaluation of mechanical specifications with controlscontent.
  • Review and evaluation of process flow diagrams and design criteria; and
  • Coordination of I&C deliverables with the process, mechanical, and electrical disciplines.

Construction support activities:
  • Review of Contractor and Supplier submittals, and
  • Participate in construction site inspections,
  • Support of equipment and control system commissioning, start-up, and performance testing, and
  • Assist with system troubleshooting.

Marketing Support Activities would be considered an asset, including:
  • Assisting marketing team with project pursuit strategies,
  • Presentation material development,
  • Presentation participation, and
  • Serving as I&C discipline subject matter expert.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Possess solid interpersonal skills for working in a team environment (virtual or in-person).
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills
  • ability to convey project I&C needs to the project managers and clients, and to formulate those needs into comprehensive plans and specifications.
  • Ability to mentor junior to intermediate staff and work with remotely located project team members.
  • Able to work on multiple projects simultaneously.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering is required; 15 years of experience in instrumentation and controls.
  • Possess Professional Engineering registration (P.Eng.) or the ability to obtain within 18 months of hire date is required.

Pay Range:
• Locations Outside of Lower Mainland - BC - Min Salary $ 128,600.00 - Max Salary $ 192,900.00
• Locations in Lower Mainland - BC - Min Salary $ 136,300.00 - Max Salary $ 204,500.00

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
