Full Job Description
Role description:

As part of our continued growth in Western Canada, we are seeking a motivated and technically capable Senior Hydrogeological Site Engineer to support our site-based construction supervision team in Vancouver. This role is ideally suited to an engineer with strong field experience who enjoys working directly with contractors, inspectors, designers, environmental specialists, and clients to deliver large and complex infrastructure projects.

The Senior Hydrogeological Site Engineer will play a key role in the delivery of Engineering Services During Construction (ESDC), assisting with field reviews, hydrogeological monitoring, technical coordination, QA/QC verification, contractor submissions, and project documentation. The successful candidate will be a highly visible presence on site and will work closely with the Resident Engineer and design teams to ensure that construction activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in conformance with the design intent, project specifications, permits, and applicable codes.

The role offers significant opportunities for technical growth through direct involvement in major transportation, marine, tunnelling, port, heavy civil, and infrastructure projects while working alongside experienced Engineers of Record and construction professionals.

Role accountabilities:

In this role, you will serve as the Engineer of Record for the hydrogeological systems and groundwater-related works under your supervision, while supporting the Resident Engineer in the day-to-day delivery of site engineering and construction supervision activities. You will play a key role in overseeing groundwater management works on site, carrying out inspections and field reviews to confirm that construction progresses in line with approved drawings, specifications, design intent, permit requirements, and groundwater management plans.

You will be responsible for monitoring groundwater conditions and the performance of related systems, including dewatering, seepage behaviour, recharge systems, and discharge quality, to ensure that they are operating as intended. As part of this, you will identify technical and constructability issues early and contribute to practical solutions before they affect program, cost, quality, environmental compliance, or safety. You will also review contractor documentation such as RFIs, technical queries, method statements, inspection and test plans, shop drawings, material submittals, dewatering plans, groundwater monitoring plans, and temporary works proposals.

Working closely with contractors, subcontractors, inspectors, designers, geotechnical specialists, environmental monitors, and client representatives, you will help coordinate technical requirements and respond to changing site conditions. You will support the documentation of field reviews, site observations, monitoring results, deficiencies, corrective actions, non-conformances, and close-out activities, while also participating in construction progress meetings, technical workshops, and coordination sessions, ensuring that actions and decisions are properly recorded and followed through.

In addition, you will verify installed works, collect field measurements, review groundwater monitoring data and as-built records, and support project documentation throughout delivery and close-out. You will contribute to quality assurance and quality control processes, including instrumentation records, water quality testing, discharge compliance, and inspection records against ITP requirements. You will also assist with change management, testing and commissioning, performance verification, handover, and final close-out activities, while promoting a strong safety culture through active participation in site safety inspections, hazard assessments, toolbox talks, and incident prevention initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Geological Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Hydrogeology, or a related discipline
  • A minimum of 12 to15 years of engineering experience, including hydrogeological engineering, construction support, site engineering, field supervision, or engineering services during construction
  • Registration as a P.Eng. or eligibility for registration with EGBC is required
  • Demonstrated experience supporting field reviews, construction inspections, groundwater monitoring, dewatering systems, and site engineering activities on transportation, heavy civil, marine, tunnelling, industrial, or infrastructure projects
  • Experience reviewing construction drawings, shop drawings, contractor submissions, RFIs, technical queries, dewatering plans, groundwater monitoring plans, and as-built documentation
  • Strong understanding of groundwater flow, seepage, dewatering systems, recharge systems, excavation support interaction, instrumentation and monitoring systems, discharge requirements, and related civil or geotechnical infrastructure
  • Experience coordinating directly with contractors, subcontractors, consultants, owners, regulators, and construction trades
  • Familiarity with QA/QC processes, non-conformance reporting, deficiency tracking, instrumentation data review, water quality testing, and construction documentation systems
  • Experience identifying constructability issues and supporting development of practical field solutions while maintaining design intent and regulatory compliance
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple work fronts simultaneously
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a broad range of project stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently in fast-paced construction environments and exercise sound engineering judgement under pressure
  • Experience with field reporting software, digital QA/QC systems, groundwater monitoring databases, and document management platforms is considered an asset

The salary range for this position is $109,000 - $159,000. The base salary represents Arcadis' hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
