Position Description

What We Are Looking For

C. Herman Construction is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to join our Preconstruction department in Charlotte, NC. This team member will have a meaningful impact on company growth and is ideal for a detail-oriented and driven self-starter. The Estimator will prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for a variety of projects, collaborating closely with the Director of Preconstruction and other team members.

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare take-offs and cost estimates for multifamily and mixed-use construction projects.
  • Build out trade scopes and level bids
  • Analyze drawings, designs, specifications, and other documents to understand project scope and requirements.
  • Manage subcontractor outreach. Request and review subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure accuracy and competitiveness.
  • Collaborate with the preconstruction team to identify potential cost-saving opportunities, value engineering options


and project risks.

  • Track project bid status, upcoming project opportunities, follow up on proposal submissions.
  • Maintain and update estimating databases, historical cost data, and bid tracking information.
  • Participate in bid reviews, sub meetings, and project planning discussions.
  • Support development of preliminary budgets and conceptual estimates.
  • Prepare bid proposals and related documentation.


Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated strengths in takeoffs and unit pricing
  • Works with urgency and doesn't get stuck waiting for direction
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with construction management/
  • preconstruction software: Procore and Bluebeam
  • Understanding of constructability, delivery models, and construction document management.
  • Skilled in timeline management, from initial project planning through execution.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Make necessary changes, use customer input to make improvements, and meet/exceed internal and external customer expectations.
