Overview

SUMMARY:

The Environmental Health & Safety Officer (EHSO), serving as a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) Level 2, is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of workplace health, safety, and environmental compliance. This senior level professional plays a critical role in minimizing operational risks, maintaining regulatory compliance, and fostering a safe, healthy work environment for all personnel on site.The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in environmental health and safety practices, strong leadership capabilities, and the ability to implement and enforce safety programs in a dynamic operational setting..

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead and manage all on site environmental health and safety programs in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.• Conduct routine inspections, audits, and hazard assessments to identify risks and implement corrective actions.• Develop, update, and enforce site specific safety plans, emergency response procedures, and environmental compliance protocols.• Provide safety training, briefings, and toolbox talks to personnel and contractors.• Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions; prepare detailed reports and recommend preventive measures.• Maintain documentation required for regulatory compliance, including OSHA, EPA, and DoD standards.• Coordinate with project managers, supervisors, and government representatives to ensure safety requirements are met throughout all phases of work.• Monitor environmental impacts and ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.• Serve as the primary point of contact for all safety related matters on site.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND LICENSURE:

• Active Secret Clearance (required at time of hire).• 6–8 years of experience in the environmental, health, and safety field (preferred).• Demonstrated experience serving as an SSHO or equivalent safety leadership role.• Strong knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910 and 1926, EM 385 1 1, and other applicable safety regulations.• Proven ability to conduct risk assessments, safety audits, and incident investigations.• Excellent communication, leadership, and training skills.• Ability to work independently and make critical decisions in fast paced environments.

• Prior experience in the supervision of a workforce responsible for operations, maintenance, and repair of commercial building infrastructure systems.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

 

• Must be able be able to conduct preventative maintenance activities and minor repairs from ladders or elevated platforms. • Work requires the incumbent to walk, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in uncomfortable positions. • Ability to lift, carry and set up tools, equipment and parts that weigh up to and occasionally over fifty (50) pounds. • Must be comfortable getting dirty, dusty, and greasy in an indoor or outdoor environment with frequent exposure to excessive noise. • Must be able to perform duties under adverse weather conditions (extreme cold / heat, etc.).• Must be able to work alternate shift schedules when necessary to meet the mission requirements of the customer, to include weekends and holidays.• Must be able to perform on-call duties when scheduled and report to work within one hour of notification.

WORK AUTHORIZATION/SECURITY CLEARANCE:

 

Secret or higher security clearance, or the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance. U.S. Citizenship is required.ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS:As a condition of employment, must pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results.
