Job Description:Join the Firmware Engineering team as a Senior Engineer I-Firmware supporting complex embedded firmware architecture, development, integration, verification, debugging, release, and lifecycle challenges. This role is best suited for candidates with 5–7.5 years of relevant experience in embedded firmware, device drivers, real-time systems, middleware, hardware/software integration, or a closely related engineering area.
In this role, you will own complex individual-contributor assignments and coordinate technical investigations and reviews, partner with hardware, systems, software, validation, applications, product, manufacturing, quality, and customer-facing teams, and help deliver robust functionality, integration readiness, product quality, and lifecycle support.
As a Senior Engineer I-Firmware in Microchip’s Datacenter Solutions business unit, you will be working on products that deploy leading edge technologies such as CXL, NVMe, DDR, PCIe, SAS, and RAID. These products are developed and designed for our cloud hyper-scaler, Tier 1, and OEM customers that build and create the communication infrastructure for the connected world we live in.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute complex embedded firmware designs, components, drivers, services, middleware, interfaces, and verification approaches.
- Translate complex product, system, hardware, and software requirements into firmware architecture elements and implementation plans within approved scope.
- Analyze code, interfaces, timing, memory, power, performance, reliability, security, defects, risks, and technical tradeoffs.
- Lead complex debugging and root-cause investigations within assigned scope; coordinate corrective actions and closure.
- Review specifications, designs, code, test plans, results, defects, and release evidence for technical quality.
- Drive automation, reuse, build, integration, regression, and development-process improvements.
- Coordinate complex deliverables and technical reviews across hardware, systems, software, validation, applications, product, manufacturing, and quality teams.
- Mentor peers through technical guidance and knowledge sharing without implied people-management authority.
Requirements/Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field with 5–7.5 years of relevant experience in embedded firmware, device drivers, boot software, real-time systems, middleware, communications, hardware/software integration, firmware testing and debugging, semiconductor or related product development, or closely related equivalent experience.
Qualified candidates should demonstrate analytical thinking, embedded-software problem solving, structured debugging, root-cause analysis, technical documentation, evidence-based communication, cross-functional collaboration, quality focus, and the ability to work with complex hardware, software, firmware, system, and product information.
Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate:
- Employment stability, reliability, and sustained accountability in prior roles.
- Effective teamwork and cross-functional collaboration.
- Integrity and accuracy in representing qualifications, experience, and credentials.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with embedded firmware, device drivers, boot software, real-time systems, middleware, communications, or hardware/software integration.
- Experience with firmware development flows, debugging, version control, build systems, testing, scripting, automation, or continuous integration.
- Experience resolving performance, timing, memory, power, reliability, security, integration, or field issues.
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Knowledge of Agile development process.
- Knowledge of high speed serial protocols such as PCIe and/or SAS/SATA.
- Experience with RISC/MIPS architectures, ThreadX RTOS and SoC peripheral protocols.
