Senior Electrical Engineer | Minneapolis, MN

IMEG is hiring a Senior Electrical Engineer in Minneapolis, MN to support both the Technical Path and the Project Management Path for moderate to complex building projects. In this role, you will lead electrical systems analysis, design, and implementation oversight while supporting the delivery of larger and high complexity projects with limited support from senior staff.

You will work closely with engineers and consultants to provide project direction, engineering solutions, and advice to clients that ensure positive outcomes. The role also includes project management, budget accountability, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration in healthcare and MEP markets, advancing high-performance, energy-efficient design aligned with MEP2050 and AIA2030.

Technical Path

What You'll Do
  • Lead design efforts for the analysis of electrical systems, using engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards.
  • Perform site assessments and generate detailed analysis and technical reports.
  • Interact with clients to understand their needs, gather project requirements, communicate technical information effectively, and build and maintain client relationships through professional communication.
  • Provide in-process design reviews of electrical system design, calculations, specifications, and project correspondence, and implement IMEG quality control processes to ensure engineering designs and solutions meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards, and client requirements.
  • Provide technical assistance in resolution of field issues with limited support from senior staff, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals, and participate in project interviews and project presentations.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in electrical engineering, contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG, train, mentor, and motivate staff, and prioritize safety by identifying and mitigating potential safety risks associated with electrical systems.

Project Management Path

What You'll Do
  • Coordinate, oversee and manage projects ranging in size and complexity.
  • Assist Project Executives and Client Executives with design scopes of work, fee calculations for proposal generation, and contract reviews.
  • Create project schedules including targets for milestones and deadlines, collaborate with design staff and coordinate scheduling during all phases of design and construction, and schedule and lead progress meetings with meeting documentation.
  • Serve as the point of contact for teams and clients, build, maintain, and develop client relationships, and respond to and resolve client / construction concerns.
  • Create monthly billings and submit financial information to Accounting in a timely manner, and update billing projections and estimated completion percentage for all projects monthly.
  • Ensure design follows owner standards and requirements, IMEG standards and code requirements, ensure design milestone deliverables are achieved, IMEG and client quality control processes are completed, and construction technical support occurs in a timely manner, conduct construction site visits and provide documentation as needed or requested, manage change orders and obtain appropriate approvals, and train, mentor, and motivate staff.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required
  • 7 years of experience minimum required, 8 preferred, in the building design consulting industry


Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of Illumination Engineering Society (IES) Standards and reference material resources such as NFPA Link, TechStreet, MadCAD, and Facility Guideline Institution (FGI)
  • Advanced proficiency of Master Specification editing and software such as eSPECS; Proficient with Adobe or Bluebeam Revu
  • Ability to mentor, train, motivate, and lead others
  • Ability to perform final quality control check in their area of expertise
  • Ability to sell work and develop client relationships
  • Strong training and mentoring skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

Overall, the team is strongest in building systems upgrades, renovation support, and facility study work across institutional and healthcare environments.

State of Minnesota Salary Range: $112,00-$170,000 per year

The range listed above represents the base pay IMEG reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position in the work location identified above at the time of posting. For positions available in multiple locations, the minimums and maximums may vary based on work location.

Individual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors, including the candidate's experience, education, knowledge, skills, abilities, and licensure and certifications.
