Job Summary

Centrus Energy is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer with experience in industrial medium- and high-voltage power distribution, substations, switchgear, transformers, and protective relaying. This role will lead and support the design, modification, analysis, testing, and commissioning of electrical power systems for complex industrial facilities.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Lead the design and modification of medium- and high-voltage power distribution systems, including substations, transformers, switchgear, switchboards, and distribution feeders.
  • Prepare and review single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment layouts, cable schedules, grounding plans, and bills of material.
  • Specify and select major electrical equipment, including transformers, MV/HV switchgear, circuit breakers, protective relays, CTs/PTs, grounding equipment, and associated distribution components.
  • Perform and review load flow, short-circuit, protective device coordination, arc-flash, motor-starting, voltage-drop, and equipment-duty studies using ETAP, EasyPower, SKM, or similar tools.
  • Develop and review protective relay settings, protection philosophies, breaker trip schemes, interlocks, and coordination requirements for medium- and high-voltage systems.
  • Support substation physical design, including equipment arrangement, grounding, raceway and duct-bank routing, cable selection, electrical clearances, and interface requirements.
  • Apply applicable NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE, and ANSI requirements and participate in electrical safety, hazard, and design reviews.
  • Produce and review design calculations, technical specifications, procurement packages, vendor submittals, and construction documentation.
  • Provide technical leadership during construction, troubleshooting, testing, energization, and commissioning activities in the field and at vendor facilities.

We'd Love to Hear from Candidates With
  • At least 8 years of electrical engineering experience, with significant experience in industrial power distribution, substations, utility systems, or similar medium- and high-voltage applications.
  • Practical design experience with substations, transformers, MV/HV switchgear, circuit breakers, protective relays, grounding systems, and distribution feeders.
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE, and applicable ANSI requirements for industrial electrical power systems.
  • Experience with power-system analysis tools such as ETAP, EasyPower, or SKM for short-circuit, coordination, arc-flash, and load-flow studies.
  • Demonstrated understanding of protective relaying, relay settings, CT/PT selection, breaker protection, and coordination of medium- and high-voltage systems.
  • Working knowledge of SCADA, PLC, metering, and control interfaces associated with switchgear and protective relaying is helpful.
  • Strong troubleshooting, technical judgment, documentation, and communication skills, with the ability to lead electrical design activities and work across engineering disciplines.
  • Experience in regulated or complex industrial environments such as nuclear, chemical, manufacturing, utilities, oil and gas, or similar facilities is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred; relevant training in protective relaying, power-system analysis, NFPA 70E, or MV/HV equipment is also beneficial.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.
