Full Job Description
Position Summary:

Bristol Myers Squibb is building an internal, Databricks-native data and AI organization for Commercial, Medical, and Market Access. The Head of Commercialization Data & AI Delivery will lead this transformation. This role owns a major platform migration effort. It also carries responsibility for building the team, standards, and delivery model needed to sustain the platform on Databricks after migration.

This is a builder-operator role with a clear path to broader leadership opportunities. The successful candidate will run the daily work of the transformation to Databricks. They will evolve the current external delivery model into a stronger internal capability. They will build stakeholder relationships and organizational credibility. Over time, this leads to expanded leadership of the Commercialization Data & AI function.

The Head of Commercialization Data & AI Delivery reports to the Executive Director, Commercialization Data & AI. This role will build and shape the Platform Engineering and AI/ML & Analytics functions for Commercialization. This includes hiring their senior technical leaders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Set the operating model and standards for how Commercialization Data & AI delivers, with decisions that affect the function's ability to meet its commitments
  • Lead the transformation of Commercialization Data & AI toward a stronger internal delivery model
  • Manage a significant external delivery partnership through a structured evolution of scope
  • Build and hire senior technical leadership for Platform Engineering and AI/ML & Analytics
  • Lead a combined US and India-based engineering organization
  • Partner with Enterprise Data Platforms to hold delivery work to enterprise architecture and governance standards
  • Own the pace of the transformation, including hiring sequence, migration milestones, and vendor knowledge transfer
  • Engage directly with executive-level stakeholders across Commercial, Medical, and Market Access, including negotiation of vendor and delivery commitments
  • Set engineering standards for code review, testing, documentation, and data product delivery
  • Build the credibility and judgment needed for expanded leadership of the function


Qualifications & Experience:
  • 15+ years of experience in data engineering, data platform, or technology delivery, including at least 10+ years in a people leadership capacity managing engineering or technical organizations of significant size
  • Experience leading a data organization through a real technology or platform transition, not just steady-state operations
  • Direct experience managing an external systems integrator or managed-services relationship through a shift to internal delivery, ideally at multi-million-dollar scale
  • Working knowledge of modern cloud data platforms (Databricks, Snowflake, or similar) strong enough to evaluate technical hires and hold teams to a standard
  • Experience building and leading distributed engineering teams, including offshore delivery centers
  • Experience in a regulated industry (pharma, life sciences, financial services, or healthcare) preferred
  • A track record of building structure, standards, and discipline in ambiguous environments
  • Strong executive presence and experience working directly with business leaders outside IT
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field required; advanced degree a plus

Compensation Overview:

Princeton - NJ - US: $237,070 - $287,267

The starting compensation range(s) for this role are listed above for a full-time employee (FTE) basis. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills, where the job is performed, the employee's work schedule, job-related knowledge, and experience. Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.

Based on eligibility*, additional time off for employees may include unlimited paid sick time, up to 2 paid volunteer days per year, summer hours flexibility, leaves of absence for medical, personal, parental, caregiver, bereavement, and military needs and an annual Global Shutdown between Christmas and New Years Day.

All global employees full and part-time who are actively employed at and paid directly by BMS at the end of the calendar year are eligible to take advantage of the Global Shutdown.

*Eligibility Disclosure: The summer hours program is for United States (U.S.) office-based employees due to the unique nature of their work. Summer hours are generally not available for field sales and manufacturing operations and may also be limited for the capability centers. Employees in remote-by-design or lab-based roles may be eligible for summer hours, depending on the nature of their work, and should discuss eligibility with their manager. Employees covered under a collective bargaining agreement should consult that document to determine if they are eligible. Contractors, leased workers and other service providers are not eligible to participate in the program.
