Director / Senior Director, Corporate Communications
New York
We're looking for a creative communicator with range and resourcefulness: someone who can find the story, organize the moving parts, and solve the conundrum. You'll be ready to get stuck into whatever the work requires.
Based in New York, you'll play a key role in Universal Music Group's small but ambitious Corporate Communications team, working closely with the Chief Communications Officer and communications colleagues in Los Angeles and London. You'll also collaborate with our Investor Relations, Global Impact and Government Relations teams.
By instinct and necessity, we're adaptable and keen to do things differently. You'll help tell distinctive stories about UMG's artists, people, and business, while improving how we work as a team. That takes someone culturally curious, who brings fresh thinking and disciplined follow-through to everything they take on.
What you'll do
• Write with clarity and purpose. Create press releases, talking points, executive briefings, internal communications and social content that give audiences a reason to pay attention.
• Make our value clear. Get to grips with complex financial updates, digital strategy and business transformation, translating them into persuasive stories that show how UMG creates value for artists, songwriters and shareholders.
• Sharpen our media intelligence. Own and improve the essentials: daily clips, press lists, research, coverage analysis and social listening. Help the team spot what matters and act on it.
• Turn ideas into action. Help develop and deliver announcements, campaigns and projects, keeping deadlines, approvals and details on track.
• Build relationships and extend our reach. Work with journalists and colleagues across our businesses to identify fresh angles and opportunities across media and social channels.
• Support and advise executives. Work with senior leaders on messaging and interview preparation, bringing informed perspectives and practical advice.
• Help navigate sensitive moments. Support issues management and crisis response with accurate research, clear writing and calm execution.
• Bring better ways of working. Explore new tools and approaches, including AI, to improve research, monitoring, content development and team workflows, with care for accuracy and confidentiality.
What you'll bring
• Relevant experience in communications, PR or journalism, in-house or at an agency.
• Excellent writing and editing skills, a feel for a story and the ability to adapt to different voices and audiences.
• Strong organization and attention to detail, with the flexibility to manage competing priorities in a fast-moving, always-on media environment.
• Experience in media relations, a strong understanding of how stories travel and reputations are shaped across social platforms, with some exposure to issues or crisis communications.
• A global mindset and curiosity about music, culture, technology and business, and how they influence one another.
• The confidence to contribute ideas, the judgment to ask questions, and the discretion to handle sensitive information.
• Discretion and sound judgment in high-stakes situations, with the confidence to contribute ideas and ask questions.
A strong work ethic and a willingness to pitch in whenever needed, taking as much pride in getting the small things right as in delivering the big moments.
