POSITION SUMMARY

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join a focused team within SEPS Data Science supporting payment, subscription, and risk experiences across PlayStation's direct-to-consumer business. This is a hands-on role for someone who will build data, dashboards, reports, and systems that help teams fight fraud and improve decision-making. Work ranges from short-term efforts to longer strategic projects, requiring creativity, adaptability, and strong technical execution.

This role will be working very closely with the Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) Global Payments Team that plays a central role in enabling consumers across the world to purchase hardware, digital content and services.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines, automated workflows, monitoring, alerts, dashboards, and reporting solutions for GPFD teams.

• Develop reliable, governed, and AI-ready data products that support analytics, automation, machine learning, and generative AI use cases.

• Partner with data scientists, analysts, engineers, and stakeholders to deliver trusted, documented data for production workflows.

• Use cloud technologies, orchestration tools, and modern engineering practices to improve platform reliability, scalability, security, and operational efficiency.

• Document architectures, data flows, and processes, and communicate technical concepts to audiences ranging from engineering teams to executives.

• Support team growth through mentoring, knowledge sharing, technical reviews, hiring participation, and a strong commitment to protecting Sony and its customers.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR POSITION

Your qualifications and experience should include:

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

• 7+ years of experience in data engineering, database development, software development, systems design, or data analysis.

• Strong SQL, data modeling, database design, DDL, DML, data validation, and performance-optimization skills.

• Proficiency in one or more languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, Bash, or PowerShell, with experience building automated data pipelines and workflows.

• Familiarity with structured and semi-structured formats, Linux or Windows environments, secure data transfer, permissions, authentication, and encryption.

• Experience preparing and operationalizing data for analytics, AI, or ML use cases, including data quality, lineage, governance, feature engineering, and responsible use of AI-assisted tools.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with platforms such as Snowflake, DynamoDB, Oracle, Hadoop, Athena, or EMR.

• Experience with streaming and messaging technologies such as Kafka, Kinesis, or ActiveMQ.

• Familiarity with reporting and observability tools such as Tableau, Splunk, Datadog, or Domo.

• Experience with cloud infrastructure, containers, storage, orchestration, and automation tools such as Docker, Packer, Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.

• Exposure to AI platforms, vector databases, feature stores, model monitoring, retrieval-augmented generation, or production ML infrastructure.

• Knowledge of payments processing, digital commerce, or card-not-present fraud.

The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $180,000 to $205,000. This range does not include any other compensation components or other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
