About the Role:

Remitly is looking for a Senior Counsel, New Product Initiatives with a background in consumer and cross-border payments, stored value / prepaid, digital wallets, product development, and consumer protection. You will work with and report to our Director, Global Head of Product and Marketing Legal and work with our dynamic legal teams based in Seattle, London, Brazil, and the United Arab Emirates. You will also be part of a supportive, and close knit global business group, establishing a world-class legal function for a fast-growing financial services company. This role will be located in either Seattle or Arlington, VA. It is a hybrid role, with a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday in office requirement.

You Will:
  • Support new product strategies and initiatives by providing complex legal advice in a highly regulated and global financial services industry.
  • Have the opportunity to work on providing legal support for the development and launch of a wide range of global new product initiatives
  • Gain expertise on all legal and compliance facets of fintech products, across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Advise our product, engineering, compliance, and marketing teams on legal requirements and risks related to modifications of existing products and implementing new financial products. Proactively identify risks and recommend reasonable mitigations.
  • Be comfortable advising teams on unclear areas of the law and interpreting and applying the law in new contexts and translate legal advice into actionable guidance for product and business teams that follows our our core values.
  • Assist, and work with outside counsel to obtain legal advice in other jurisdictions. If necessary, assist with regulatory interactions and internal audit inquiries.
  • Work collaboratively and develop trusted relationships with business partners and work closely with diverse, motivated, and mission-driven cross-functional global teams to launch a wide range of consumer fintech products.
  • Remain up-to-date on all relevant financial services regulations and guidance, industry standards, and consumer protection laws to provide exceptional legal advice.
  • Must have the ability to thrive in an innovative and environment.


You Have:
  • J.D. or equivalent.
  • Admitted to, and in good standing with at least one State Bar.
  • Knowledge of consumer fintech products and experience advising cross-functional teams at all stages of the product development lifecycle.
  • Experience with prepaid or stored value, payments and money movement, and lending laws is beneficial. Knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act anti-money laundering regulations is also beneficial, but not required.
  • General ability to work on commercial contracts.
  • 6 or more years of experience practicing either in-house at a FinTech or bank, or at a law firm with a focus on financial services and products.
  • Collaborate as part of a team, and to prioritize project management.


Compensation Details. The starting base salary range for this position is typically $208,000 -$260,000. In the U.S., Remitly employees are shareholders in our Company and equity is part of our total compensation plan.
