Job DescriptionOverview The
Senior Cost Controller (EPCM projects) will provide hands-on cost control leadership on medium to large EPCM projects, supporting engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases. The role is responsible for budgeting, forecasting, cost reporting, change management, and performance analysis, while ensuring consistency with corporate project controls standards and systems.
This position works closely with Project Managers, Commercial teams, Planning/Scheduling, Procurement, and Clients to deliver accurate financial insight and support informed decision-making.
This role will be based in
Montreal, Quebec.Your role EPCM Cost Control & Project Delivery:
- Develop, maintain, and control project budgets, cost forecasts (FAC/EAC), and cash flow for EPCM projects.
- Establish and manage project WBS/CBS/cost coding structures and perform cost tracking, variance analysis, trend analysis, and performance reporting (including Earned Value where applicable).
- Lead change management, including change orders, transfers, trends, and contingency usage.
Governance, Systems & Reporting:
- Ensure compliance with approved cost control plans, procedures, and governance frameworks.
- Set up and maintain cost control systems and tools (e.g., ERP, project controls platforms, reporting dashboards).
Collaboration & Leadership:
- Act as a key cost control point of contact for the Project Manager and client.
- Mentor and support junior and intermediate Cost Controllers while coordinating effectively with Planning/Scheduling, Estimating, Procurement, and Commercial teams.
About you - Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Finance, Business, or related field.
- 10+ years of experience in cost control/project controls within EPCM / EPC or engineering/construction environments.
- Proven experience managing project budgets, forecasting, and change control.
- Advanced proficiency with Excel and project cost control systems (i.e. EcoSys, InEight, Procore, Aconex Cost).
- Exposure to Earned Value Management (EVM) principles.
- Bilingual English/French. * This position requires knowledge of a language other than French, namely English, as the clients and/or suppliers you will interact with are primarily English-speaking and located outside Québec.
