Summary:

Provides consumer protection counseling, recurring legal disclosures and reviews, sales and marketing contract support, and development of playbooks, templates, and scalable legal guardrails.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide day-to-day legal counseling on consumer protection requirements affecting advertising, sales, marketing, enrollment, contracting, billing, servicing, retention, cancellation, and customer communications.
  • Conduct recurring reviews of disclosures, scripts, webpages, digital experiences, promotional materials, customer notices, and business processes for legal compliance and consistency.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate sales, marketing, lead generation, agency, vendor, promotional, and related commercial agreements.
  • Develop and maintain playbooks, templates, checklists, standard clauses, approval criteria, and scalable legal guardrails for business teams.
  • Partner with Marketing, Sales, Digital, Product, Customer Care, Compliance, Privacy, Billing, Collections, and Operations to implement legal requirements in practical workflows.
  • Research and monitor federal and state legal developments and translate them into concise guidance, training, contract updates, and operational recommendations.
  • Support internal assessments, audits, issue remediation, complaint trends, and regulator or litigation response in coordination with subject-matter leaders.
  • Escalate material or novel risks with clear legal analysis, options, and recommended next steps.
  • Promote consistent documentation, knowledge management, and repeatable review processes across Consumer and Small Business legal support.


Relevant Legal and Regulatory Expertise:
  • Federal Trade Commission Act and state unfair or deceptive acts or practices laws.
  • Telephone Consumer Protection Act, telemarketing, and call-recording requirements.
  • CAN-SPAM, lead generation, consent, and electronic marketing.
  • Auto-renewal, negative option, subscription, cancellation, and recurring billing laws.
  • Advertising claims, endorsements, promotions, pricing, and disclosures.
  • Consumer contracts, electronic commerce, privacy, and data-use requirements.
  • Review and negotiate marketing, sponsorship, and lead generation contracts


Leadership and Operating Model Responsibilities:
  • Apply the factory-versus-strategic service model, using approved resources for repeatable work and escalating novel, high-risk or strategic matters appropriately.
  • Help establish service levels, intake requirements and quality standards for recurring reviews and marketing contracts.
  • Partner with Compliance Strategy & Architecture while maintaining clear accountability for legal advice and operational compliance.
  • Promote collaboration, knowledge sharing, training, data quality and continuous improvement across the legal team.


Required Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state bar.
  • Seven to 10 years of relevant legal experience, with meaningful experience in consumer protection, advertising, marketing, customer contracting, privacy, or regulatory counseling.
  • Ability to convert complex legal requirements into clear, scalable business guidance and practical controls.
