JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Controls Engineer provides technical leadership for the architecture, integration and execution of control systems across multiple projects. This role architects multi-controller systems and cross-cell integration, defines the safety approach and validation method, and sets the architecture that other engineers build within.

Given objectives and constraints, the Senior Controls Engineer determines scope and approach and is consulted before commitments are made in their platform or discipline area. The role sets technical direction across projects without supervisory authority, approves deviations from standard, leads customer design review, FAT and SAT, and serves as the named owner of a platform.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Architect multi-controller systems, diagnostics strategy and data flow
  • Define the safety approach and validation method for a system
  • Design cross-cell and plant-interface networks; own the addressing convention
  • Design reusable library objects; set program structure conventions
  • Set HMI standards and templates across platforms
  • Select and qualify new devices; lead vendor and product evaluations
  • Set technical direction across projects for a platform or discipline area; approve deviations from standard
  • Review AE design and quote requirements; feed back discrepancies before commitment
  • Estimate controls effort and identify technical risk at quote and kickoff
  • Lead customer design review, internal FAT, customer FAT and SAT
  • Lead and prioritize actions on escalated issues
  • Coach Controls Engineer III; develop training content; serve as named platform owner
  • Order long-lead items, assign specialty items, and close out punch list and lessons learned
  • Travel to customer sites for design review, commissioning readiness and customer acceptance - approximately 20% of time.


Requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related engineering discipline or equivalent experience, required.
  • 7-10 years in controls engineering, including architecture of multi-controller solutions
  • Experience defining diagnostics, telemetry and safety approaches
  • Cross-subsystem integration and standards leadership
  • Commissioning strategy and readiness leadership
  • Vendor evaluation and selection influence
  • Proficient across Rockwell, Siemens and at least one SCADA platform

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the wage range for this role is $138,000 - $155,000 annually. The rate range provided is a general guideline. When extending an offer, Adaptec Solutions considers factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
