The Business Development Manager develops and executes long-term business development strategies that support ecobee and Generac business objectives and a sustainable future. The role reports to the Head of Business Development and works across Product, Marketing, Sales, Finance, Legal, and other functions to identify, structure, and deliver partnerships that create measurable value for the company, its partners, and customers.
The position represents ecobee and Generac with external organizations, including executive-level stakeholders, and leads complex opportunities from market and customer insight through negotiation, approval, integration, launch, and performance management. The role may be performed remotely within North America and requires occasional travel, including travel to Toronto for team or company events.
This role is open to being 100% remote within the US, although our home office is in Toronto, Ontario. You may be required to travel to Toronto, Canada once per quarter for team and/or company events.
[For Toronto/GTA Candidates only] This role follows a hybrid schedule, with in-office work required on Wednesdays and Thursdays to support collaboration, and flexibility to work remotely for the remainder of the week.
Major Responsibilities:
• Develop and execute the strategic business development plan in collaboration with key internal stakeholders, aligning priorities to company strategy, customer needs, market opportunities, and financial objectives.
• Build and manage a qualified partnership pipeline, evaluate opportunities, define strategic positioning and business models, and recommend investment priorities based on expected customer and financial value.
• Create partner value propositions and business cases, including market opportunity, revenue strategy, economics, resource requirements, risks, and success measures.
• Lead partner engagement and executive-level relationship management, establishing alignment on shared objectives, governance, and decision-making.
• Draft, negotiate, and finalize commercial agreements and deal terms in partnership with Finance and Legal, and secure required executive approvals.
• Coordinate with Product and Engineering teams to define, prioritize, and manage partner integration requirements, dependencies, resources, and delivery timelines.
• Collaborate with Sales and Marketing to develop commercialization and go-to-market plans, including channel strategy, customer experience, launch readiness, and ongoing partner activation.
• Establish key performance indicators and operating rhythms to monitor partnership performance, address issues, and identify opportunities for expansion or corrective action.
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in business, finance, marketing, engineering, or a related field.
• Five or more years of experience in business development, corporate strategy, strategy consulting, partnerships, or a related discipline, including experience developing business opportunities and managing complex negotiations.
• Proven ability to build and deliver return-on-investment-driven business opportunities and translate customer and market insights into actionable business development strategies.
• Experience with pipeline management, business case development, commercial structuring, contract negotiation, and cross-functional execution.
• Ability to influence and build consensus with internal leaders, partners, and C-suite stakeholders without relying on direct authority.
• Strong written and verbal communication, financial and strategic analysis, project management, and executive presentation skills.
• Builder mindset with demonstrated ability to develop new business models, secure organizational support and funding, and move ambiguous opportunities toward decisions and execution.
• The hired candidate will be required to complete a background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master's degree in business administration or a related field.
• Experience developing technology-enabled partnerships, partner integrations, and go-to-market programs involving connected products, energy, smart home, HVAC, or adjacent consumer technology markets.
• Knowledge of partnership lifecycle management, market opportunity identification, strategic positioning, playbook development, revenue strategy, and performance measurement. Ability to operate effectively across multiple priorities in a matrixed organization and to travel occasionally within North America.
Canada Applications:
Generac is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role, based in Toronto, ON is between $130,000 - $165,000 CAD. This compensation will ultimately be in line with the location in which the position is filled. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate's relevant work experience, skills, certifications and geographic location. This role is eligible for variable compensation, including short-term and long-term incentives.
This position includes a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans; life, long-term disability, flexible spending and health savings accounts, accrued paid time off, paid Holidays (10 for Ontario, 11 for British Columbia) and RRSP retirement benefits

Generac is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role based in Seattle, WA is between $135,000 - $170,000 USD. This compensation will ultimately be in line with the location in which the position is filled. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate's relevant work experience, skills, certifications and geographic location. This role is eligible for variable compensation including short term and long-term incentives.
