Northern Trust is seeking an accomplished financial services leader to serve as National Leader of the Professional Services Group (PSG). This individual will lead the continued growth and evolution of a national business serving leading professional services firms and their partners, principals and senior professionals.
This is a highly visible leadership opportunity combining business building, client development, talent leadership and enterprise collaboration. The National Leader will set the strategy for PSG, expand the business into priority markets, recruit and develop exceptional talent, and personally engage with some of the industry's most successful firms and professionals.
A central opportunity will be connecting Northern Trust's relationships with professional services firms to the broader financial needs of their partners and senior professionals, bringing together banking, credit, liquidity, wealth advisory, investments, trust and other capabilities.
What You'll Do:
- Lead and grow a national business. Set the vision and strategy for PSG and drive sustainable growth across markets, client segments and capabilities.
- Be a senior relationship builder. Personally develop significant relationships with professional services firms, firm leaders, partners and centers of influence while helping the broader team originate and deepen relationships.
- Build the Firm-to-Firm opportunity. Develop scalable strategies that leverage relationships with leading firms to create meaningful banking and wealth management opportunities with their partners, principals and senior professionals.
- Bring the full organization to clients. Partner across Wealth Management, Banking, Wealth Advisory, Trust, Investments and specialized capabilities to deliver differentiated solutions.
- Build and lead exceptional talent. Recruit, coach and develop a high-performing national team and create a culture centered on growth, collaboration, accountability and outstanding client service.
- Expand the national footprint. Identify attractive markets, talent and client segments where PSG can establish or deepen its presence.
- Drive execution. Establish clear business-development priorities and maintain accountability around client acquisition, pipeline development, loans, deposits, fees and wealth opportunities.
- Serve as a market leader. Represent Northern Trust with leaders across the professional services community and develop relationships that enhance the firm's presence and reputation.
The combination of personal origination, team leadership and responsibility for growth builds from the underlying Senior Banking Director framework while substantially expanding its national scope.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate is a proven business builder and people leader who brings:
- 10+ years of relevant banking, wealth management, professional services or financial services leadership experience. The underlying Senior Banking Director framework similarly calls for 10+ years of related experience.
- Demonstrated track record of originating and expanding significant client relationships.
- Deep banking, credit and liquidity expertise combined with an understanding of the broader needs of high-net-worth clients.
- Experience with professional services firms, senior professionals and complex client relationships strongly preferred.
- Proven success recruiting, developing and leading high-performing professionals.
- Strong executive presence and the ability to build credibility with managing partners, firm leaders, senior executives and centers of influence.
- A collaborative leadership style and demonstrated ability to mobilize resources across a complex organization.
- The ability to move seamlessly between strategy and execution, from defining a national growth agenda to personally advancing an important client opportunity.
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or relevant professional credentials beneficial.
Why This Role
This is an opportunity to build the next chapter of a national Professional Services franchise, leveraging Northern Trust's capabilities and relationships to deepen engagement with leading firms and become a trusted financial partner to the professionals who lead them.
The successful candidate will have the platform to build a business, shape its national strategy, develop its talent and create an increasingly powerful connection between professional services relationships and Northern Trust's broader Wealth Management franchise.
