Salary: Starting at $90000 / annually - depending on experience / education Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00 am - 3:15 pmJob Summary The School Nurse oversees daily healthcare operations for students at the Mary A. Dobbins School, ensuring compliance with New Jersey State Board of Nursing standards, Department of Education requirements, and all applicable regulatory and accrediting bodies. The school serves approximately 70 students who have a diagnosis of special needs IDD, and a range of mental health needs, diagnosis. The environment is supported with interdisciplinary support staff/specialist.
Responsibilities
- Responsibilities include managing student health services
- Administering and monitoring medications
- Providing medical triage, post-restraint evaluations, and follow-up care
- Maintaining accurate and confidential healthcare records
- Coordinating medical transportation when necessary
- Participates in student admissions and interdisciplinary treatment team meetings
- Serves as a liaison with families and community providers
- Oversees health education and disease prevention initiatives, and ensures accurate documentation within the Electronic Medication Administration Record (eMAR)
Qualifications
- Requires a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), current Registered Nurse licensure, and New Jersey School Nurse certification
- Minimum of five years of experience working with children and adolescents with emotional, behavioral, or psychiatric needs
- Strong knowledge of psychotropic medications
- Current CPR/AED certification is required
- Must complete at least twelve hours of annual professional training in behavior management, substance abuse, human sexuality and HIV/AIDS awareness, and suicide prevention
