Responsibilities

The TikTok Privacy & Responsibility Product division's goal is to meet all of our privacy, responsibility, and compliance requirements, while providing the best user experience to responsibly consume, create, and enjoy content on TikTok. We focus on building infrastructure and user-facing tools that uphold data transparency, empower user control, and earn trust at scale. As part of this team, you'll help shape the future of privacy on one of the world's most influential platforms, balancing regulatory demands with innovation and usability. Platform Responsibility team builds the systems that keep our community safe. You are responsible for developing product safety narratives (internal and external), in close step with XFNs, to demonstrate our responsibility. Your primary role is not that of an external spokesperson or a policy writer. You will deeply understand product strategies and concepts, write the canonical narratives, coach the wider product org, and act as the trusted single point of contact. What You Will Own 1. Build the Communication Tiering Mechanism - Tier 1 - Proactive Trust Baseline. Run a recurring cadence of product methodology and roadmap updates to PR / GR / Legal, building mutual fluency before crises hit. - Tier 2 - Major Launch Alignment. For every significant safety product launch, drive cross-functional pre-launch alignment: define risks, set communication prerequisites (Help Center articles, FAQs), ensure we ship with our story already told. - Tier 3 - Thematic Deep-Dives. Identify recurring high-stakes topics (e.g., minor safety, predatory behavior governance, machine-moderation logic) and produce canonical internal references. 2. Shape Narrative, Not Just Summarize Facts - Shift the team from reactive fact-collecting to proactive proposition-setting. Hold a clear point of view on what story we want to tell about safety philosophy, then mine facts to support it. - Translate complex product mechanics into human-centric, press, and policy audiences. - Maintain our safety design philosophy as a living document; ensure it is consistently reflected in product decisions and external statements. 3. Be the Single Point of Contact in High-Stakes Moments - Serve as the strategic product-side POC for PR / GR / Legal on required communications. - Lead product-side contribution to inquiries and crisis response, ensuring responses are strategically aligned, technically accurate, and free of over-promises. 4. Enable the Wider Product Org - Coach PMs on narrative construction and stakeholder communication. Build a self-sustaining culture where product decisions ship with their story already articulated.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - Experience: proved experience in Trust & Safety, Policy Communications, Public Affairs, or Product Marketing within a social media platform. Proven track record of driving cross-functional initiatives (across Product, Comms, GR, Legal) without direct authority. - Storytelling & Acumen: Demonstrated ability to translate highly technical product logic into persuasive, human-centric narratives. High sensitivity to industry trends, media appetite, and regulatory concerns - knowing instinctively what stories resonate with the public and what risks trigger scrutiny. (Writing samples required). - Domain Expertise: Depth in at least one safety & compliance vertical (e.g., Minor Safety, Content Integrity, AI Safety) and working fluency with at least one major global safety regulatory regime (e.g., UK OSA / OFCOM, EU DSA, US state-level regimes). - Language: Proficiency in Chinese and English is required to collaborate with global partners and key stakeholders based in Mandarin-speaking markets, where Mandarin is a primary working language. Preferred Qualifications - Prior experience operating directly inside a Trust & Safety product org, or serving as a regulator-facing communicator at a large platform company. - Hands-on experience drafting formal, regulator-facing or media-facing materials.
