Pay: The anticipated salary range for this position is $48-$60 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. Compensation is determined based on a variety of factors, including relevant work experience, the skills required for the role, internal equity, market competitiveness, and budget considerations. Shift times: Primarily Monday - Friday. Some evenings as late as 8:30pm and some weekends may be included in the schedule dependent on department needs.
Location: Based at 1200 Lagoon Avenue, Minneapolis, MN. Expected travel throughout Twin Cities metro area dependent on department needs.

Job Summary:

Under general administrative supervision of the Director of Research Operations & Innovation, clinical supervision of and collaboration with the Director of Research and Chief Medical Officer, the Research Clinician provides clinical services related to research, including reproductive health care, to patients at designated PPNCS clinic(s). In clinical research studies, the Research Clinician performs routine clinical services, recruits and enrolls subjects, and performs other study activities in accordance with good clinical practices, standard operating procedures, study protocols, and contractual specifications. Research Clinicians are advocates in implementing our mission of "Advancing and protecting sexual and reproductive healthcare for all". They may perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Current active, unencumbered state license as a Registered Nurse and APN in state you are applying for the role, and ability to obtain additional state license(s) upon hire or active license as a Physician Assistant.
• Current national board-certification as an Advanced Practice Nurse or a Physician Assistant.
• DEA license or ability to obtain at hire, and enrollment in Controlled Substance Monitoring Program as applicable in the state you are applying for the role.
• Advanced degree, minimally master's degree.
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification for healthcare providers.
• Experience in reproductive and sexual health care, including pelvic exams, phlebotomy, and contraceptive implant and device insertion and removal

Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

The Research Clinician practices according to the PPNCS MS&G and as indicated by the patient's status; APN practice, and research protocol and procedures and includes the following:

• Obtains pertinent patient history and performs a physical exam, as indicated by the visit type.
• Recognizes and addresses deviations from normal.
• Performs, orders, and interprets both screening and diagnostic testing; addresses abnormal findings.
• Develops plan, which may include treatment, medical or other referrals, and/or prescribing of medications.
• Provides patient instruction regarding plan of care, preventive education, and health promotion and maintenance.
• Consults with Medical Director or clinician on-call as indicated.
• Obtains informed consent when indicated.
• Collaborates with the health care team and other community agencies and resources, as indicated.
• Assesses interventions and/or referral progress as indicated.
• Documents accurately and clearly.
• Supervises clinic support staff regarding routine patient orders.
• Provides customer focused care and assures smooth and efficient patient and clinic flow processes.
• Interprets scientific studies based on knowledge of basic research principles
• Provides input and current information for the on-going process of protocol development.
• Stays up-to-date on reproductive health care developments and maintains CEU requirements for required licensure and certification.
• Meets quality assurance requirements, including the appropriate dispensing of medications.
• Maintains patient confidentiality and meets compliance requirements, including HIPAA.
• Meets coding and documentation requirements.
• Possesses basic comprehension and skills of PPNCS clinic computer technology as it relates specifically to the APN role.
• Recognizes ethical legal and professional issues inherent in providing reproductive health care.
• Communicates clinical and professional issues and questions to the Director of Clinical Practice.
• Follows protocol and training requirements for expanding scope of practice and/or learning new procedures, i.e. colposcopy, IUD insertion.
• Works to ensure understanding and acceptance of the APN PPNCS role with colleagues, consumers, and the community.
• Follows PPNCS Policies and Procedures.
• Appropriately supervises RNs who are qualified to utilize the Standing Orders and RN Condition-Specific Protocol at PPNCS in Minnesota only. Appropriately supervises support staff (Mas and LPNs) in the utilization of Standing Orders.
• Prescribe all FDA approved methods of birth control.
• Provide medication abortion follow up or refer patients for medical abortion.
• Refer patients for surgical abortion, prenatal care or adoption services.
• Counsel HIV+ clients.
• Assist physicians with evaluation of medication abortion patients.

Performs a range of activities in clinical research studies, including:

• Recruits and screens potential study subjects, including obtaining consent.
• Performs components of medical workup as needed, including obtaining blood and urine specimens from patients.
• Assists in the processing and shipping of blood, urine, and serum specimens.
• Follows procedures to protect and maintain the rights and confidentiality of all human study participants.
• Adheres to OSHA regulations.
• Maintains appropriate training research credentials.
• Maintains documentation required by study sponsors including source documentation, case report forms and study, regulatory, and patient binders.
• Maintains databases/spreadsheets to track study process and research data.
• Provides subject care and data collection procedures in adherence with the assigned study protocol and in accordance with good clinical research principles.
• Participates in audits conducted by study sponsors, CROs, and the FDA.
• Liaises with study sponsor(s) as needed to facilitate daily operations and goals.
• Serve as a resource for clinic staff and administrative departments regarding research studies (participant eligibility, progress, funding).
• Maintain communication with study subjects, and appropriate study personnel, clinic staff and leadership, and clinic staff regarding subjects' questions and concerns.
• Manage projects such as organizing tasks and files, developing timelines, gathering materials for and leading meetings, and setting up systems for tracking reporting deadlines.
• Assist with the planning and implementation of routine research site initiation and/or monitoring visits and audits.
• Monitor data quality control to ensure adherence to study protocol.
• Develop, monitor, and optimize research protocols and procedures.
• Ensure compliance with clinical study protocols, and proper completion/submission of compliance paperwork.
• Other duties as assigned.
