Position Overview

We are seeking a RAMS Specialist to join our Systems Assurance Team with expertise in RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety). The candidate will work closely with our Systems Assurance Director and Systems Integration Leads and the broader Integrative Engineering and Technology Solutions (IETS) Team on the delivery of an expanding portfolio of complex infrastructure projects.

The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, safety, operations, and maintenance teams to ensure system performance, risk, and lifecycle objectives are clearly defined, assessed, and achieved throughout the project lifecycle.

Apply RAMS processes, methods, and techniques across project activities in accordance with client requirements and applicable rules, regulations, and standards; support RAMS process compliance; define and manage RAMS requirements for system designs and interfaces; and perform design reviews, verifications, and technical studies to demonstrate conformance with RAMS requirements.

The position offers scope for personal skill development, especially in relation to expanding RAMS and security expertise within an Infrastructure Engineering team, while also providing opportunities to interface and present with industry professionals. The candidate will be directly mentored by experts in the field as part of a multi-disciplinary team, exposing the candidate to a wide variety of technical aspects from O&M, Power Systems, Highway and Traffic Controls Systems, Transportation Technologies and Civil Infrastructure / Building Systems.

Location

This position is based out of our Oakville, Ontario office with travel to other offices and project sites in Canada and the US.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain RAMS plans, strategies, and lifecycle deliverables in alignment with project, contractual, and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform and support RAM analyses, including FMECA/FMEA, Reliability Block Diagrams (RBDs), availability and maintainability assessments, failure-rate analysis, and MTTR evaluations.
  • Review and assess system and subsystem designs for RAMS implications, compliance, and alignment with performance requirements.
  • Support RAMS requirements allocation, interface management, and verification activities across system architectures and supplier boundaries.
  • Support the development and apportionment of project-level RAMS performance targets to system, subsystem, and component levels using structured methods such as Reliability Block Diagrams, FMECA, and analytical modelling, ensuring alignment with contractual requirements and design intent.
  • Contribute RAM-related inputs to Engineering Safety Cases, assurance reports, and lifecycle documentation, ensuring consistency with overall project assurance objectives.
  • Review and interpret contractual RAMS, performance, and security requirements, supporting compliance and traceability throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Perform reliability prediction modelling for infrastructure and interfacing systems, including the apportionment of RAMS requirements to lower-level subsystems using recognized techniques such as RBDs and FMECA.
  • Conduct independent peer reviews of reliability and maintainability analyses and calculations to verify design assumptions and results.
  • Support the definition of maintenance and Line-Replaceable Unit (LRU) strategies to achieve reliability objectives while optimizing maintenance effort and lifecycle cost.
  • Review supplier RAMS documentation, identify non-compliances, and support resolution activities in coordination with the project team.
  • Develop and support RAMS demonstration plans, including FRACAS plans and procedures, in collaboration with Project Management and field teams.
  • Ensure Systems Assurance and RAMS processes are properly applied and followed by all relevant stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Perform RAMS and risk analyses aligned with recognized frameworks and standards such as the EN 50126 lifecycle (V-model), Canadian Method of Risk Evaluation and Assessment, and MIL-STD-882.
  • Support Threat and Vulnerability Assessments, including the derivation of project security requirements, integration into design development, and contribution to security-related deliverables.


Qualifications

  • The individual must be inquisitive and willing to learn about a wide variety of rail systems requirements as part of the team.
  • The candidate should have a technical basis in engineering (from academics and work experience, ideally with professional consulting work experience) and have technical written and oral communication skills as the role will frequently involve collaboration with clients, contractors, and other engineering firms in an Infrastructure Project advisory and/or delivery environment.
  • Experience with reliability analysis tools such as Isograph, ReliaSoft, Item Toolkit, PTC Windchill or similar tools
  • The individual will be required to plan, organize, and coordinate work with groups of professionals and technicians.
  • Experience with direct client interface and complete project life cycle (design to commissioning) is an asset.
    Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • P.Eng. in Ontario or British Columbia or PE in US States Preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years working in a Systems Engineering/Systems Assurance/RAMS environment with preference to those with rail transit experience and familiarity with the application of CENELEC standards (BS EN 50126, 50128, 50129) and other relevant industry standards.
  • Experience in the Systems Engineering lifecycle is an asset, including typical tools for development of requirements (for example, DOORS)
  • Must have excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Available to work in Canada immediately without visa sponsorshipAbility to regularly report to corporate and / or project site office
