Responsibilities

  • Lead QC inspection teams in both visual and dimensional aspects.

  • Train team members on diverse inspection methodologies and equipment.
  • Collaborate with Design, Engineering, and Quality teams for process improvements.
  • Guide team decisions on part disposition to meet quality standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to minimize rework and enhance compliance.

Full Job Description
Join our team as a Quality Supervisor!

This role has a five day/week on-site expectation.

The Quality Supervisor will lead on-site day-to-day work activities of the QC team. They will established Quality practices across the team while responsible for the inspection of parts produced in the factory. The Quality Control Supervisor will also identify and collaborate with peers and direct reports to implement continuous improvement opportunities both within the inspection areas and throughout the factory.

What you will do

  • Lead inspectors and technicians in visual and dimensional inspection processes.
  • Oversee daily inspection activities and department areas across shifts.
  • Interpret drawings and support GD&T understanding.
  • Train team members on inspection methods, processes, and equipment.
  • Partner with Design, Engineering, and Quality to improve inspection and quality processes.
  • Develop team capability in inspection programming and troubleshooting.
  • Guide part disposition decisions to meet customer and workmanship standards.
  • Support equipment needs for required inspections.
  • Hire, develop, and manage quality staff, including performance reviews, discipline, and timekeeping.
  • Support external audits and maintain compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 13485, and other certifications.
  • Drive continuous improvement to reduce rework and nonconformance.
  • Monitor process performance and use data to improve quality outcomes.
  • Provide hands-on leadership in manufacturing to solve problems and strengthen quality culture.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


What it takes

  • Associates or Technical degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent work experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 2+ years of experience working within a quality system
  • 2+ years of supervision experience
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Experience with ISO 9001.
  • Familiar with Quality systems, inspections and practices and continuous improvement concepts in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ownership for capital equipment and it's maintenance, working with outside vendors as needed.
  • Managing calibration system needs for factory inspection equipment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented work environment.
  • Ability to manage staff schedules to maintain coverage in critical areas.
  • Effective management style, compatible with the Protolabs culture: collaborative, flexible, innovative, results-oriented, and change leader.
  • Good written and oral communication skills: able to communicate complex information to all levels of the organization.
  • Experience with problem solving and lean manufacturing.

$80,200 - $107,000 a year

Protolabs offers a competitive total rewards package, and compensation mix vary based on position, such as base wage, as well as other earnings including incentives and commissions. Actual pay offered will vary depending on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, job function, work experience, specialized skills, training, education, and certifications.

Physical Demands:

While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit; use a computer keyboard, monitor and mouse, telephone and printer; reach with hands, and arms, talk, see and hear. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop or kneel and must be able to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.

Work Environment:

Indoors (A/C); nonsmoking; the majority of this job function is performed in a manufacturing area exposed to machinery and noise; with eye protection and safety shoes required. Occasionally works in outside weather conditions. Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
