This position will be located in Pocasset, Mass

HII Unmanned Systems is seeking an experienced candidate to come join our team! As our new Supplier Quality Engineer, you will:
  • CAPA Chairperson: Champion problem solving and root cause analysis activities to eliminate recurrence of non-conformances associated with assigned product line.
  • Lead Quality Engineer for new vehicle product line
  • Collaborate with design teams to ensure quality assurance and control requirements are accounted for as early in program lifecycle as possible.
  • Identify and record any problems relating to the product process and quality system, initiate, recommend, or provide solutions.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing engineering team to ensure production routings have proper controls for implementation of quality plan and appropriate inspection steps
  • Assist Supplier Quality Engineer in conducting supplier and sub-contractor audits to ensure compliant performance, drive process standardization, waste elimination, and continuous improvement.
  • Support Supplier Quality Engineer in traveling to supplier locations to ensure quality requirement clarity, conduct capability or quality risk assessments, and/or resolve quality problems as needed
  • Assist Supplier Quality Engineer in evaluating supplier technical issues in a timely manner to ensure continuity of supply that meets HII technical documentation or document HII engineering allowable deviations.
  • Collaborate with other functions and product teams to ensure a robust product quality program.
  • Monitor, communicate and improve key product quality KPI's
  • Establish specific short / long term product quality goals.
  • Strategically lead product quality performance improvement projects to increase the product capability of consistently meeting our requirements. Projects may include process analysis, value stream mapping, process capability and throughput analysis, 6-Sigma, 5S and Kaizen events.
  • Aide in the new, probationary, and rejected product processes and design updates.


What you will be doing..

Develops, modifies, applies and maintains quality evaluation and control systems and protocols for processing materials into partially finished or finished materials product. Collaborates with engineering laboratory and production functions to ensure quality standards are in place. Devises and implements methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment. Designs and analyzes inspection and testing processes, mechanisms and equipment; conducts quality assurance tests; and performs statistical analysis to assess control and manage risks of product quality and determine the responsibility for products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications. Audits quality systems for development acceptance criteria (parameters based on product result). May undertake root cause analysis of incidents requiring corrective action. Ensures that corrective measures and deviation meet acceptable reliability standards and that documentation is compliant with requirements. May specialize in the areas of design, incoming material, production control, product evaluation and reliability, inventory control and/or research and development as they apply to product or process quality. May be certified in lean and six-sigma quality methodologies and utilize quality tools to help drive continuous improvement.

What we are looking for..

  • 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 3 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 0 years experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 9 years relevant experience.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a goverment clearance and be willing to do up to 30% travel #LI-MH1
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills, work well with diverse groups of people and be able to function independently of direct supervision.
  • Must have shipyard construction or quality oversight of boat fabrication experience.
  • Must be willing to travel to sub-contractor sites, supplier locations, and alternate HII facilities.
  • Preference for experience or certification in weld inspections.
  • Preference for experience in US Coast Guard (USCG) and American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) governed environments associated with naval/commercial ships.
  • Preference for experience in ISO 9000 or AS9100 manufacturing environment.


Bonus Points for..

  • Understanding of project management and Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) requirements.
  • Knowledge of various quality system methodologies 8D, Lean, 5 Why's, Pareto Analysis, Six Sigma, 8-D, DFMEA, PFEMA, PPAP, etc.


Physical Requirements

May require working in an office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environment. Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances.
