  • Lead a small team in fluid analysis and support lifecycle of pump development.

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As a key member of the Lunar Core Components Pumps team, you will be applying your skills to performing fluids analysis on Lunar vehicle components (pumps). You will use the insight from these analyses to provide design guidance to Responsible Engineers to create more optimal pump designs for the Team's broad range of supported applications. You will support the full product lifecycle and see this hardware mature from an initial CAD model to flight-qualified hardware that is installed onto one of our Lunar vehicles.

Responsibilities:

  • As a key member of the Lunar Core Components Pumps team, you will be performing fluids analysis on Lunar vehicle components (pumps)


  • You will use the insight from these analyses to provide design recommendations to the Responsible Engineers so they can create a more optimal pump design for their application


  • Apply a range of analysis tools and methodologies to design and analyze primary flowpath performance based on the fidelity of needs at a given stage in the product lifecycle


  • Generate and run secondary flow analysis models and provide design feedback


  • Provide test support to anchor analytical models and help with product development


  • Provide expert guidance on pump design and quantify performance over a variety of environments


  • Optimize and co-develop pump designs for efficiency, power consumption, system integration, manufacturability, cost, mass, leakage, reliability


  • Technical leadership of a small team working fluid analysis


  • Support complete life cycle of the pumps from definition, interfaces, conceptual design, detailed design, component development, assembly, verification, and operation


  • You will work through the product lifecycle and see this hardware mature from an initial CAD model to a flight qualified hardware that is installed onto one of our Lunar vehicles


  • Ability to apply technical expertise, leadership skills, communication skills, and dedication to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight


Qualifications:

  • M.S. degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related field


  • 5+ years of experience in thermal and/or fluids analysis and mechanical component design


  • 5+ years of experience with classical hand calculations for thermal and/or fluids analysis based on common aerospace reference materials (Shigley, Bruhn, Roark etc.)


  • 3+ years of experience with Ansys CFX, Ansys Fluent, workbench or other CFD analysis software


  • 2+ years of experience with thermal desktop, FloCAD, or other thermal analysis software.


  • Experience with a wide variety of manufacturing methods, material selection, testing, characterization & allowable development


Desired:

  • Experience analyzing cryogenic components


  • Experience with script automation in Ansys workbench


  • Experience working on human-rated space hardware


  • Experience working with NASA requirements


Base Pay Range for:
CA applicants is $81,313.00 - $113,837.85CO applicants is $74,537.00 - $104,351.10WA applicants is $81,313.00 - $113,837.85
