Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Project Surveyor to join our growing surveying practice, with a position available in our Woodbury, NY (Suffolk County) office. The successful candidate will provide technical surveying, field coordination, and production support for infrastructure and public-sector projects throughout the New York metropolitan area.

This is a flexible role that can develop according to the candidate's experience, strengths, and professional ambitions. Candidates who enjoy field work can remain actively involved in field operations and project coordination, while those interested in a primarily office-based technical role can focus on survey production, mapping, point cloud processing, and quality control. For candidates interested in broader responsibilities, the position also provides opportunities to take on project management, client interaction, and increased project responsibility.

Responsibilities
  • Perform and coordinate survey activities for infrastructure and public-sector projects.
  • Coordinate with survey field crews regarding project requirements, field procedures, control, and deliverables.
  • Perform and oversee boundary, topographic, utility, right-of-way, ALTA/NSPS, and construction surveys.
  • Establish and maintain horizontal and vertical survey control.
  • Research deeds, property records, easements, right-of-way plans, utility records, and other source documents.
  • Prepare and review survey plans, mapping, easement exhibits, right-of-way plans, and legal descriptions.
  • Utilize modern survey technologies including GNSS/RTK, robotic total stations, 3D laser scanning, UAV/drone technology, and digital data collection.
  • Process and extract survey information from terrestrial laser scanning, mobile LiDAR, and UAV/drone LiDAR point clouds.
  • Perform point cloud registration, classification, feature extraction, and quality control.
  • Integrate point cloud data with AutoCAD/Civil 3D and other survey and CAD platforms.
  • Review field data, mapping, CAD files, and deliverables for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Assist with project scopes, schedules, budgets, proposals, and client coordination as appropriate.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior survey staff.
  • Maintain a strong focus on technical quality, accuracy, efficiency, and project schedules.


Qualifications and Requirements
  • 5+ years of relevant professional land surveying experience.
  • Strong knowledge of boundary, topographic, utility, right-of-way, and construction surveying.
  • Experience with transportation, roadway, transit, rail, aviation, utility, water/wastewater, or other infrastructure projects is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD/Civil 3D and Carlson software.
  • Experience with GNSS/RTK, robotic total stations, digital data collection, laser scanning, and related technologies.
  • Strong understanding of survey control, coordinate systems, property research, and applicable survey standards.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to coordinate with field crews and other project disciplines.
  • Experience with project management and client interaction is a plus and may provide opportunities for increased responsibility.
  • Ability to travel to project sites throughout the New York metropolitan area as project requirements dictate.
  • Ability to work effectively with field crews, project managers, engineers, clients, contractors, and public agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce accurate, high-quality survey deliverables within established project schedules.
  • Commitment to technical quality, accuracy, safety, and professional standards.
  • Willingness to adopt and utilize emerging survey technologies and workflows, including LiDAR, 3D laser scanning, point cloud extraction, and 3D data processing.
