Position SummaryUnder general direction, the Project Engineer prepares customer approval calculations, develops project-specific written instructions, and establishes drafting procedures for steel bridge structures and related components.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Prepare complete and accurate engineering calculations for steel bridge structures and components.
- Apply construction and engineering principles, mathematics, material properties, and other physical sciences to develop calculation packages in U.S. customary units, metric units, or a combination of both.
- Prepare bills of material based on completed drawings.
- Review engineering work products for completeness, technical accuracy, and compliance with applicable requirements.
- Develop project-specific written instructions and drafting procedures.
- Comply with Acrow policies, safety requirements, and applicable laws and regulations.
- Travel to other Acrow locations or customer sites as business needs require.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Required Skills and Knowledge- Strong work ethic and the ability to adapt to a quickly changing business environment.
- Ability to write, analyze, and interpret technical information, including drawings, calculations, and specifications.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD or Mechanical CAD, version 2018 or later.
- Knowledge of applicable AASHTO and AISC codes and standards.
- Practical knowledge of engineering formulas and their application to the design of structural steel members and connections.
- Understanding of standard drafting terminology, abbreviations, symbols, dimensioning techniques, and procedures.
- Ability to design steel components in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
- Ability to work effectively and respectfully with individuals from different backgrounds and perspectives.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Education and Experience- Bachelor's degree in civil, structural, or mechanical engineering and four to six years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, skills, and experience.
Preferred Qualifications- Design experience involving structural systems for bridges, steel buildings, or industrial construction.
- Experience with Autodesk AutoCAD or Inventor.
- Engineer-in-Training certification or professional engineering licensure in one or more states.
Working Conditions and Physical RequirementsWork is typically performed in an office environment and requires adherence to applicable safety precautions. The position may involve occasional handling of light materials, boxes, or equipment and travel to Acrow locations or customer sites.
