Full Job Description
Crawford, Murphy & Tilly is seeking an experienced structural engineer to join the Surface Transportation team. This position may be based in any of the following office locations: Springfield, IL; Peoria, IL; Bloomington, IL or Edwardsville, IL. This is not a remote position.

As a Project Structural Engineer I, you'll play a key role in supporting the Surface Transportation team, while providing the opportunity to experience new challenges in a dynamic environment. Join us and help shape the future of engineering and consulting.

Here's what you'll do:
  • Planning, design, and project management of moderate to complex structural projects
  • Collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary project engineers and project managers to ensure successful project delivery
  • Engage clients, agencies and other professionals within the transportation engineering industry
  • Position may also include bridge inspection and reporting


Here is what you'll need:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with an emphasis in structures from an accredited university
  • 5 years' minimum related structural engineering experience with a focus in the design of bridges, box culverts, retaining walls, and other transportation structures
  • Registered Professional Engineer in any state, or the ability to gain licensure in Illinois within one year
  • Experience with IDOT bridge design and plan preparation required
  • Working knowledge of MicroStation and/or OpenRoads Designer
  • Proficient with various structural design and analysis software
  • Strong technical, written, and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and active listening skills
  • Strong attention to detail and thoroughness in completing tasks
  • Ability to work in a team environment, flexibility to adjust as project workloads demands change, and interact with a variety of staff located in other CMT offices, as well as the ability to work independently
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills to identify issues, evaluate options, and implement solutions
  • Demonstrated responsiveness, professionalism, and teamwork


Ideally, you will also have:
  • Licensed Structural Engineer preferred
  • Experience in bridge inspections preferred
  • Experience and/or desire to mentor and train young engineers
  • Willingness to travel as needed
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

The expected compensation range for this position is $95,000 - $130,000 annually. The final agreed-upon compensation is based on numerous factors, including but not limited to individual education, qualifications, prior work experience, and geographic location.
