Job Description

Data Governance & Migration Project ManagerLead a High-Impact Data Governance & SharePoint Transformation
We are seeking an experienced Data Governance & Migration Project Manager to lead an enterprise data classification initiative and phased migration from on-premises file storage to SharePoint.

This is a hands-on project leadership role combining project management, data governance, business engagement, and direct use of data classification and migration technologies. You'll work across IT, Security, Legal, Compliance, and business teams to identify sensitive data, establish ownership and classification, remediate risk, and successfully migrate departmental content to SharePoint.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the data classification and SharePoint migration initiative from discovery and planning through deployment and stabilization.
  • Own project scope, schedule, budget, risks, dependencies, decisions, and executive reporting.
  • Work hands-on with Concentric.ai to support data discovery, classification, validation, and remediation activities.
  • Use Quest migration tools to support file migrations, permissions mapping, pre-migration analysis, and validation.
  • Conduct workshops with business leaders to identify data ownership, sensitivity, retention requirements, business criticality, and migration destinations.
  • Inventory and map structured and unstructured data across file shares, SharePoint, cloud storage, email, endpoints, and other repositories.
  • Validate automated classification results with business data owners and coordinate remediation of overexposed, stale, misplaced, or sensitive information.
  • Develop a phased, department-by-department migration strategy from on-premises storage to SharePoint.
  • Coordinate migration pilots and rollout waves, including scheduling, data cleanup, permissions/ACL mapping, cutover, exception management, and business readiness.
  • Validate post-migration file counts, permissions, folder structures, and business acceptance before source environments are archived or decommissioned.
  • Coordinate directly with technology vendors to troubleshoot configuration, migration, and product-related issues.
  • Develop communications, training materials, RACI documentation, and change-management plans.
  • Track classification coverage, migration progress, risk reduction, remediation, and validation metrics for leadership.
  • Document final-state data maps, SharePoint structures, governance processes, and operational handoff requirements.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of project management experience.
  • Experience leading at least one data governance, data classification, DLP, DSPM, or enterprise data migration initiative.
  • Experience managing complex, cross-functional projects involving IT, Security, Legal, Compliance, and business stakeholders.
  • Experience with data classification or DSPM technologies such as Concentric.ai, Varonis, BigID, Securiti, Microsoft Purview, or similar platforms.
  • Experience leading file-share-to-SharePoint or comparable cloud content migrations.
  • Experience with Quest, ShareGate, Metalogix, AvePoint, or similar enterprise migration tools.
  • Ability and willingness to work directly within classification and migration tools rather than operating solely as a project coordinator.
  • Strong understanding of unstructured data, permissions, data ownership, retention, remediation, and migration dependencies.
  • Knowledge of privacy and compliance requirements related to sensitive enterprise data.
  • Strong project governance skills across planning, risk management, dependencies, cutover, issue resolution, and executive reporting.
  • Excellent facilitation and communication skills with the ability to lead workshops with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience with Concentric.ai.
  • Hands-on experience using Quest migration tools for phased SharePoint migrations.
  • Experience managing large-scale unstructured data governance initiatives across file shares, SharePoint, OneDrive, and cloud storage.
  • Knowledge of privacy and compliance frameworks such as GDPR, CCPA, and HIPAA.
  • Experience developing data remediation, migration, cutover, and validation playbooks.
  • Experience with Jira, Smartsheet, Microsoft Project, Asana, or comparable project management platforms.
This role offers the opportunity to lead a highly visible initiative that combines data governance, security, cloud migration, and business transformation. You'll have direct ownership of the project while remaining close enough to the technology to actively drive classification, remediation, and migration activities.
