Full Job Description
Project Engineer

Envent Corporation | Houston / Texas Gulf Coast | Full-Time, Exempt | Field & Office | Travel up to 30%

We are hiring a Project Engineer for our Gulf Coast operations. This is a hands-on role combining design, project management, and field execution: you will scope and engineer the system, specify and source the equipment, direct its installation and commissioning, and own the technical outcome from start to finish. We are looking for roughly five years of engineering experience and someone who wants responsibility for complete projects rather than a narrow piece of one.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Plan, schedule, coordinate, and execute the technical and commercial aspects of assigned projects: scope, equipment selection, execution plan, and budget.
  • Design and specify temporary vapor control and water treatment systems: piping and skid layouts, rotating equipment selection, instrumentation, and controls.
  • Provide direct technical oversight in the field, directing technical field personnel through setup, startup, and operation of complex temporary systems.
  • Oversee fabrication, verify proper installation, perform function checks, and commission equipment.
  • Lead and participate in Process Hazard Analyses - HAZOP, what-if, fault tree, and checklist - and support Management of Change (MOC) reviews with engineering data and documentation.
  • Work with Account Managers on customer inquiries and difficult technical challenges; represent Envent in client, contractor, and vendor meetings.
  • Develop operational, maintenance, and compliance procedures, and train and audit personnel against them.
  • Obtain permits and coordinate with environmental agencies; perform incident investigations including failure and root cause analysis.
  • Manage project costs to budget and manage facilities, personnel, vehicles, and equipment for efficiency and profitability.

WHAT YOU BRING
  • Education - Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Experience - Approximately five years of engineering experience in petrochemical, refining, terminals, or a closely related heavy industrial environment.
  • Process safety - Prior participation in Process Hazard Analysis meetings, or certified PHA training.
  • Drawings - Ability to read and develop P&IDs, PFDs, mechanical plans, isometrics, schematics, logic diagrams, and vendor cut sheets.
  • Software - AutoCAD, MS Project, Excel, and Word.
  • Field readiness - Willingness to work in the field in varying weather, wear and pass fit testing for all site-required PPE, and support a 24/7 operation including off hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Driving - Valid driver's license from your state of residency, an acceptable motor vehicle record, and insurability under Envent's carrier.

PREFERRED
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Direct experience with degassing, vapor control, thermal oxidation, carbon adsorption, scrubbing, or industrial water treatment.
  • Hands-on experience with process control and automation: PLC/HMI-based control systems, control narratives and logic, instrument and control loop specification, and startup or troubleshooting of automated systems in the field.
  • Understanding of instrumentation principles and failsafe design of safety and control systems.
  • Working command of rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, blowers) including selection against performance curves, plus materials of construction and chemical compatibility.
  • TWIC card and current OSHA HAZWOPER certification.
  • Experience in permitting and working directly with state or local environmental agencies.
  • Turnaround, capital project, or field commissioning experience.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This role mixes office and field work, with overnight travel typically up to 30% by vehicle or air. On site you can expect to stand and walk for extended periods, climb ladders, stoop, kneel, or crouch to operate and troubleshoot equipment, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Work is performed outdoors in varying weather and includes regular exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals common to active industrial sites; required PPE is provided. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
