Full Job Description
We are seeking candidates to hire for our Project Designer (1006) - Bridges & Buildings Facilities position. Opening Date: 09/08/2026 Closing Date: 09/29/2026 Job Grade: SAM 38 Starting Salary: Up to $90,688.00 Additional $5,000 salary increase for having a Pennsylvania PE License. OVERALL DESCRIPTION The Project Designer provides technical expertise to support design functions, maintenance, troubleshooting, and compliance as part of the team to implement mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, piping, fueling systems, maintenance equipment, elevators and escalators across SEPTA's transit network. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES 34; Provides analysis, detailed design reviews, and checker support for mechanical systems and maintenance equipment. Provides conceptual, preliminary, and final designs to third parties. 34; Writes specifications and Request for Proposals and review designs for all devices and mechanical systems including preparing proof of concept for all new devices and systems. Generates and coordinates design plans and specifications for in-house and 3rd party forces. 34; Reviews, monitors, and performs oversight and witnessing of factory testing of mechanical systems equipment and work in progress. Takes necessary action to correct unusual equipment operations and recommend standard preventative maintenance procedures. 34; Conducts preliminary engineering site walks with various parties, and reviews and approves third party construction drawings and specifications. 34; Supports system integration of interoperable subsystems from different suppliers for compatibility and functional performance. 34; Designs various types of mechanical systems including but not limited to HVAC, plumbing, piping, fueling systems, maintenance equipment, elevators and escalators across SEPTA's transit network. 34; Manages the performance of 3rd party technical services including CSEC's, GEC's and other technical services. 34; Initiates, upgrades and implements design standards to be employed in communications. 34; Reviews and approves 3rd party designs and construction documents for conformity with established standards. 34; Generates written memoranda, technical reports, audits, etc. in professional, effective manner. 34; Participates in periodic review of drawings and specifications. 34; Provides, promotes, and enforces safe working conditions in accordance with accepted safety practices and procedures. 34; Complies with all Authority and departmental safety and security policies and procedures as well as all applicable job safety responsibilities. Reports any safety concerns, compromises or hazards affecting operations, the public, self and/or other employees. Responsible for personal safety and is encouraged to promote the safety of others. 34; Performs other duties as assigned.
