Responsibilities

  • Undertake project planning, scheduling, estimating, cost control, and reporting across multiple projects.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, forecasts, budgets, and cost reports.
  • Prepare project control reports, dashboards, and management updates including variance analyses.
  • Develop and maintain Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and Cost Breakdown Structures (CBS).
  • Coordinate with various teams to monitor progress and identify risks to schedule or budget.
  • Support engineering cost estimating for projects and assist with change management processes.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of project controls processes, templates, and workflows.

Full Job Description
We have a current vacancy for a highly skilled and detail-oriented Project Controls Specialist to join our team.

The Project Controls Specialist plays a key role in the planning, monitoring, and successful delivery of engineering projects and studies. Reporting to the Project Cost Controller, this position supports project scheduling, cost control, estimating, reporting, and project data management while working closely with various project managers, discipline leads within the organization, and with subcontractors and service providers outside the organization whom we depend on. The incumbent in this role will also contribute to the development of project controls standards, reporting tools, and future ERP implementation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Undertake project planning, scheduling, estimating, cost control, and reporting across multiple projects in the organization.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, progress tracking, forecasts, CAPEX estimates, including basis of estimate documents, and budgets, and cost reports.
  • Prepare project control reports, dashboards, earned value summaries, schedule and cost variance analyses, and management updates.
  • Develop, set up and maintain Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), Cost Breakdown Structures (CBS), project registers, and tracking tools.
  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, construction, and project management teams to monitor progress, forecast remaining work, and identify schedule or budget risks.
  • Support engineering cost estimating for studies, EPC and EPCM projects, including assumptions, exclusions, and execution planning.
  • Assist with change management by tracking scope changes, schedule impacts, and budget adjustments.
  • Develop and maintain project documentation, reporting systems, and document control in accordance with company standards.
  • Support continuous improvement of project controls processes, dashboards, templates, automation, AI-enabled workflows, and future ERP implementation initiatives.


Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Technical diploma, engineering degree, project management qualification, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in project controls, estimating, cost control, scheduling, or project coordination.
  • Experience in mining, mineral processing, industrial, infrastructure, engineering consulting, EPCM, EPC, or construction projects preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of project controls principles including budgeting, forecasting, earned value, cost and schedule variance, progress measurement, and change management.
  • Experience preparing engineering estimates, CAPEX estimates, and project reports is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, lookups, charts), Microsoft Office, and SharePoint; experience with Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, Power BI, or Power Automate is an asset.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Interest in digital transformation, automation, AI-assisted workflows, and continuous improvement is considered an asset.


The expected pay range for this opportunity: CA $90,000 - 105,000 + annual discretionary performance and profit share bonus (as applicable).
