Full Job Description
Role Summary
AstraZeneca is building agentic AI products that take work out of clinical development and clinical operations, starting with automating site-monitoring reports and data review for clinical research associates. We are seeking a Product Line Lead, Clinical & Agentic AI, to own the product line that takes these agents from proof of concept to GxP-validated use, and to set the direction of the agentic AI platform layer that supports them.
You will lead product ownership across the line, including the product owner for the clinical research associate (CRA) agent, and set priorities, lifecycle gates and decision rights between product and engineering. You will make sure each product is built with the data access, human oversight and validation evidence that regulated clinical settings require, from the start. You will also guide how the platform layer evolves as enterprise AI assistants take on more of AstraZeneca's everyday agentic work, including which use cases still need a purpose-built, governed platform because of patient data.
You will work with clinical development and operations leaders, AI scientists and engineers, R&D IT, Enterprise AI platform teams, Quality, and external delivery partners. This line is early in its life and the platform landscape is changing. We are looking for someone who is decisive, comfortable with ambiguity, and credible with both clinical and engineering audiences.
Accountabilities:
Product Line Strategy and Roadmap
• Define and own the strategy, roadmap and success measures for the clinical and agentic AI product line, tied to AISI's must-win outcomes and the multi-year plan.
• Decide what to start, scale, merge or stop across the line, using clear lifecycle gates and evidence of value.
• Define and maintain decision rights between product and engineering (product decides what and why; engineering decides how), and make them hold in practice.
• Keep one current view of the line's portfolio, funding, cost and risk, and report on it to AISI leadership.
Leading Product Owners and Delivery
• Direct and develop the product owners on the line, starting with the CRA agent product owner. Make sure every product has an accountable owner, a roadmap, a backlog and a value case.
• Work with engineering leaders and external delivery partners to clear blockers, including data access, environments and integration dependencies.
• Set the operating rhythm (planning, reviews, stage gates) so that delivery scales as the line grows.
Clinical Agentic Products
• Own the path of the CRA agent from proof of concept through silent pilot to GxP-validated release, including sign-off from business owners across therapeutic and operational areas.
• Translate clinical operations needs into product requirements and measurable outcomes, such as monitoring effort saved and trial capacity gained.
• Make human-in-the-loop design, auditability and validation planning product requirements from the first release.
Agentic Platform Direction
• Set the product direction for the agentic platform layer used by R&D, and recommend where to build, buy, adopt or retire platforms.
• Define and defend the boundary for patient data and regulated use: which use cases need a governed, purpose-built platform, and which can run on enterprise assistants.
• Lead the transition plan and user communications when platforms change, working with Enterprise AI and IT partners.
Governance, Compliance and Quality
• Work with Quality, Compliance and Data Privacy so that products meet GxP computerised system validation, data privacy and AI governance requirements.
• Own the line's risk register and raise issues early, including security findings and control gaps.
• Support audit and inspection readiness for the line's products and processes.
Financial and Vendor Stewardship
• Keep cost visible across headcount, contractors, cloud compute and model usage, and contribute to planning cycles.
• Manage vendor and outsourced delivery partners to agreed scope, quality and cost.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Build strong relationships with clinical development and operations leaders, AISI science teams, Enterprise AI and R&D IT.
• Communicate clearly about readiness, trade-offs and uncertainty so that leaders can make decisions.
Essential Skills/Experience:
Education
• At least a Master's degree or PhD in life sciences, data science, computer science, engineering or a related field. An advanced degree is desirable.
Experience
• 10 or more years of experience in product management or product leadership, including leading other product owners or managers.
• Experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology or other regulated healthcare technology settings.
• Track record of taking a product from proof of concept to validated production use in a regulated environment.
• Working knowledge of clinical development or clinical operations processes, such as site monitoring and clinical data review.
• Familiarity with agentic and LLM-based products, and with how to evaluate their quality and risk.
• Understanding of GxP computerised system validation and data privacy requirements.
• Experience managing budgets and outsourced delivery partners.
• Proven ability to make and communicate prioritisation decisions across senior stakeholders.
Desirable Skills/Experience:
• Experience with clinical systems such as EDC and CTMS.
• Experience with platform product management and build, buy or adopt decisions.
• Working knowledge of Atlassian tools (JIRA, Confluence).
The annual base pay (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from $181,570.4 to $ 272,355.6 USD. Our positions offer eligibility for various incentives-an opportunity to receive short-term incentive bonuses, equity-based awards for salaried roles and commissions for sales roles. Benefits offered include qualified retirement programs, paid time off (i.e., vacation, holiday, and leaves), as well as health, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms of the applicable plans.
