Procurement Systems Lead-Hybrid
Towson, MD or Valley City, OH
The Job:
The Procurement Systems Lead is the primary operator for procurement technology, process, and spend analytics, reporting to the Senior Manager. Procurement Leadership sets direction and priorities. This role turns that direction into movement: prioritized work, owned timelines, clean systems, trusted spend data, and measurable results.
This is not a pure strategy seat and not a ticket-only systems analyst role. The right person can sit in a planning meeting, leave with intent, and then drive execution across people, process, platforms, and analytics. When the work requires it, they get into the system themselves: configurations, integrations, classification, data quality, reporting, and exception handling.
How This Role Operates- Translates strategy into execution – breaking it into a sequenced plan with owners, dates, and decision points.
- Moves work forward independently. Escalates only when a true decision, resource, or tradeoff is needed.
- Gets technical when required: inspects records, tests workflows, traces data issues, reviews spend classifications, documents configurations, and partners directly with IT, vendors, category managers, and power users.
- Builds reliability. Prefers durable process and system design over one-off heroics.
Core ResponsibilitiesSystems ownership & execution
- Owns the lifecycle of procurement systems (P2P, sourcing, contract, supplier, catalog, and spend analytics) — from requirements and design through roadmap execution, testing, cutover, and post-go-live stabilization.
- Translates business needs into system configuration — workflows, approvals, roles, catalogs, integrations, and reporting — while maintaining documentation including process maps, runbooks, and user guides.
- Runs the operating rhythm for all systems work: backlog management, cross-functional coordination with Procurement, Finance, Legal, IT, and business units, and partnership with vendors on integrations, data feeds, and incident resolution.
- Tracks what matters — adoption, cycle time, exception rates, data quality, and compliance — and reports progress in plain language.
Spend analytics and category support
- Owns the spend analytics platform and operating model (Sievo or comparable) — setting taxonomy, classification standards, and data quality direction while partnering with the offshore data management team on execution.
- Keeps the spend cube trusted — directing the offshore team on gap resolution, unmapped suppliers, and miscategorized transactions so category managers can rely on the numbers.
- Delivers actionable intelligence to category managers — supplier concentration, price and volume movement, tail spend, and maverick spend — packaged as recommendations and savings hypotheses, not dashboard exports.
- Drives the analytics roadmap — determining what views and opportunity pipelines the business needs, then working with vendors and the offshore team to build and maintain them.
The Person:
- 5+ years in procurement operations, systems, or source-to-pay — with hands-on experience configuring or administering at least one major platform (Coupa, SAP Ariba, Oracle, Jaggaer, or comparable).
- Working knowledge of spend analytics — taxonomy, supplier normalization, spend cubes, and category reporting; experience with Sievo or a comparable platform is a strong plus.
- Able to work at two altitudes — planning with leadership and executing in the system alongside users and technical partners.
- Strong communicator — able to translate data into clear recommendations for category managers, brief leadership, and train end users.
- Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain, information systems, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading a system implementation, major upgrade, or process redesign from requirements through adoption.
- Familiarity with integrations (APIs, middleware, file feeds), identity/access, and analysis tools such as SQL, Excel at an advanced level, Power BI, or Tableau.
- Experience managing classification rules, exception queues, and data quality SLAs on a spend analytics platform.
Competencies
- Owns the mission after intent is set.
- Bias to action: moves work forward, closes loops, and makes the next step obvious.
- Technical fluency: willing to open the system, reproduce the issue, inspect the spend record, and stay with it until it is understood.
- Judgment: knows what to decide, what to escalate, and how to frame a clean recommendation.
- Influence without authority: aligns IT, finance, vendors, and business users around a single plan.
- Operational discipline: documentation, controls, and follow-through matter as much as speed.
