Process Development EngineerJob OverviewCree LED is looking to add a Process Development Engineer to our Product Engineering group in Raleigh/Durham, NC. As a member of the Cree LED Engineering team, you will support the development and improvement of LED products and processes from early development through transfer into high-volume manufacturing.
In this role, you will help run engineering experiments, analyze process and product data, troubleshoot technical issues, and work with cross-functional teams to improve manufacturability, yield, quality, and performance. This position is a good fit for a hands-on engineer who enjoys solving technical problems, learning new processes, and supporting the successful launch and scale-up of next-generation LED components.
Responsibilities- Support the development, improvement, and transfer of LED products and manufacturing processes into high-volume production.
- Assist with engineering experiments, process trials, data collection, and analysis to evaluate process capability, product performance, yield, and manufacturability.
- Troubleshoot process, product, yield, or quality issues using hands-on investigation, data analysis, and practical engineering problem solving.
- Work with engineers and cross-functional partners to identify root causes, recommend improvements, and implement corrective actions.
- Support new product development activities from prototype builds through qualification and manufacturing release.
- Coordinate activities with cross-functional teams, including R&D, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Facilities, Applications, Marketing, and Quality.
- Document experimental results, process changes, technical findings, and recommended next steps.
- Contribute to continuous improvement efforts that support product quality, reliability, cost, and manufacturing efficiency.
- Play a key role in supporting the development of next-generation LED components.
Qualifications- BS or MS in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or another relevant engineering or physical science discipline.
- 2-5 years of experience in process development, manufacturing engineering, product engineering, semiconductor processing, LED technology, or a related technical environment.
- Ability to collect and analyze technical data, interpret results, and support data-driven recommendations.
- Strong hands-on problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot technical issues in a development or manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work independently with general guidance and escalate issues or risks when appropriate.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Willing to work outside the scope of normal job duties and past experience.
- Willing and able to travel outside the United States, if required.

Compensation & BenefitsThe base pay range that the Company reasonably expects to pay for this position in North Carolina is $78,300-$97,900; the pay ultimately offered may vary based on business considerations, including job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and education. The position is bonus-eligible, and there are medical, dental, and vision benefits available. There is a 401k saving plan and other benefits, such as Paid Time Off, Life Insurance, and an Employee Assistance Plan.
