DutiesHelp
- Serves as a Policy Advisor responsible for providing analysis, advice, and consultation to the Assistant Secretary and Deputy Assistant Secretary on current public policy, national policy priorities, national policy collaboration, national policy development, and program policy coordination on a variety of employment and employment-related policies for individuals with disabilities.
- Interacts with customers of the service systems that serve people with disabilities with their advocates and other external public constituents and experts in collecting information on national disability policies.
- Evaluates the effect of proposed and adopted legislation concerning the impact on different levels of the services/systems available to individuals with disabilities and determines administrative feasibility.
- Provides consultative and advisory services on issues including analyzing outside recommendations and options for policy change with federal program offices, state and local officials, and representatives of private and public institutions.
- Participates with senior-level policy staff in the analysis of proposed legislation identify existing gaps and anomalies; points out problems not resolvable administratively; evaluates the effect of changes to the various programs and systems

QualificationsFor GS-13: Applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, GS-12, in the Federal service.
Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position successfully, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.
Qualifying specialized experience for the GS-13 level includes meeting
one of the following statements:
- Experience evaluating, implementing, or supporting assistive technology solutions, including AI-enabled technology-based supports, that help address employment-related needs of people with disabilities obtaining or advancing in employment through accessibility, reasonable accommodations, job readiness, placement, and/or retention; OR
- Experience analyzing, developing, and communicating policy, including legislative or regulatory recommendations for employment for people with disabilities.

This position is inside the bargaining unit. If the duty location is within the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, the position will be included in the Local 12, AFGE bargaining unit.
