JOB SUMMARYManages daily operational and clinical pharmacy activities, priorities, and problems; oversees pharmacist staffing and workloads; provides status reports to pharmacy management communicating issues, concerns, and suggestions. Monitors pharmacy information systems and coordinates with IR regarding problems, resolutions, and improvements; processes formulary additions to pharmacy information systems and CDM; assists with charge audits, monitors timeliness of charges and credits, and verifies accuracy. Manages and develops clinical initiatives; determines therapeutic alternatives when drug shortages are identified and communicates with medical staff leadership and key stakeholders. Assists with budget preparation and daily financial activity, including high-cost drugs; supports organizational and patient care initiatives; and assists pharmacy leadership in meeting administrative goals and objectives.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONRequired- Education
Bachelor's Degree of Science or PharmD from an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy
- Experience
2 years of experience or equivalent pharmacy residency experience.
- Licenses and Certifications
(BLS) BASIC LIFE SUPPORT certification (AHA or ARC) required by start date; Licensed by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) or eligible for licensure (Texas license within 30 days of hire).
Preferred- Experience
Experience in a hospital practice setting preferred.
JOB DUTIES- Maintain and enforce organizational and departmental policies and procedures, performance improvement objectives, and environmental/infection control standards; develop and implement processes to meet TJC, TSBP, and other regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate staff development, training, competencies, certification, and continued education; orient new employees, establish expectations, and document progress; develop, implement, and manage the clinical practice of the staff and department.
- Assist clinical staff pharmacists with therapeutic monitoring, patient assessments, interpretation of lab values, TPN assessment, and pharmacokinetic calculations.
- Promote pharmacy services; coordinate and participate in multidisciplinary in-services/meetings, performance improvement activities, rounds, consults, and individualized drug information; participate in education and experiential training of pharmacy students.
- Actively manage and enforce Pharmacy & Therapeutics initiatives through monitoring of documented interventions; verify data, develop measures, and report outcomes.
- Support cost savings initiatives; participate in assessment and selection of cost-effective pharmaceuticals; enforce formulary systems and protocols for acquisition of non-formulary products; review formulary addition requests and develop monographs for presentation.
- Monitor pharmacy information systems and communicate with IR regarding problems, resolutions, and improvements; process formulary additions to information systems and CDM; assist with charge audits; monitor timeliness of charges and credits and verify accuracy.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements to deliver prompt and safe patient care; contribute ideas and lead changes.
- Mentor clinical and operations staff; promote sound decision-making and problem identification/resolution; encourage staff ownership and continuous process improvement.
- Interview, select, and hire qualified candidates; delegate tasks; evaluate employee performance; complete annual appraisals and document commendations or disciplinary actions.
- Coordinates staff development and education. Orients new employees, coordinates training, establishes expectation and documents progress. Enhances personal growth, development, and management skills by review of current literature, participating in continuing educational programs, in-services, and meetings.
- Represent the Pharmacy Department at the P&T Committee and service line meetings.
- Perform computer order entry accurately and timely; review and update medication profiles (therapies, allergies, height, weight) and ensure appropriate patient charges; review medication orders for therapeutic appropriateness, duplications, interactions, overall effectiveness, and safety; seek clarification and document interventions (e.g., ADRs).
- Maintain high visibility and availability through participation in departmental in-services, meetings, and daily activities.
- Enhance personal growth and development by participating in educational programs, literature review, in-services, and meetings.
- Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions: (a) Directly interacting with or caring for patients; (b) Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants; (c) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing, or similarly affecting patient records (including patient financial records); or (d) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing, or similarly affecting human-subjects research records.
