Full Job Description
About the Team:

The People team builds the programs, systems, and employee experiences that allow 1X to scale while maintaining a high bar for operational excellence. We partner across the organization to ensure employees and managers have the support, tools, and processes they need to do their best work as we grow our engineering, manufacturing, and business operations.

Your Charter:

As a People Operations Generalist, your charter is to own and continuously improve the core People Operations programs that support employees throughout their lifecycle at 1X. You'll ensure onboarding, offboarding, HR systems, payroll coordination, benefits, leave, compliance, and recurring People programs operate accurately and efficiently while delivering an exceptional employee experience.

You'll balance hands-on execution with continuous improvement, identifying opportunities to automate work, strengthen compliance, improve data integrity, and build People Operations processes that can scale with 1X.

Key Outcomes:
  • Own a seamless and scalable employee lifecycle experience, including onboarding and offboarding, with accurate and timely coordination across People, IT, Finance, Payroll, and hiring managers.
  • Maintain accurate, audit-ready employee data and scalable People workflows in Rippling, while identifying and implementing automation opportunities that reduce manual work and improve the employee experience.
  • Ensure payroll-impacting employee changes, benefits, leaves, and employment transitions are processed accurately and on time through strong partnership with Payroll and Finance.
  • Deliver compliant and employee-centered administration of benefits and leave programs, including FMLA, CFRA, PDL, parental leave, and 401(k) coordination.
  • Maintain strong People Operations compliance and reporting practices, including I-9 administration, wage and hour requirements, EEO-1, California Pay Data Reporting, ACA reporting, policy documentation, and proactive identification of compliance gaps.

Key Competencies:
  • Operational owner who can independently run core People programs rather than simply supporting them.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a strong instinct for data accuracy, documentation, compliance, and follow-through.
  • Process-oriented problem solver who identifies inefficiencies and builds practical, scalable solutions rather than accepting manual processes as the status quo.
  • Employee-focused communicator who can handle sensitive questions and transitions with discretion, judgment, and care.
  • Comfortable operating across systems, data, and cross-functional stakeholders in a fast-paced manufacturing and engineering environment.

Minimum Requirements:
  • 3-5 years of experience in People Operations, HR Operations, or an HR Generalist role, with hands-on ownership of employee lifecycle processes.
  • Hands-on HRIS administration experience, including employee records, workflow configuration, reporting, and data integrity; Rippling experience is ideal.
  • Working knowledge of employment law, with particular depth in California requirements, including leave administration and wage and hour compliance.
  • Experience partnering with Payroll and Finance on employee changes, payroll-impacting events, benefits, leaves, and related reconciliations.
  • Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills and demonstrated ability to audit and reconcile HR data across systems, records, and trackers.

Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with Rippling's Custom Integration Platform (CIP) or similar HRIS integration and workflow automation tools.
  • Multi-state People Operations experience.
  • Experience supporting EEO-1, California Pay Data, ACA, 401(k), and other recurring HR compliance or reporting requirements.
  • Experience with Tilt, Ashby, Rippling, or similar People technology platforms.
  • Experience using Claude or other AI tools to automate, streamline, or improve recurring People Operations processes.

What does a successful 1X Team Member look like:

Team members at 1X who thrive here are builders. They move fast, own their work completely, and treat time like it's the one thing you can't get back - because it is. They say what they mean, finish what they start, and hold themselves to a standard before anyone has to ask. We push each other to be better, and we do it with honesty and respect.

Compensation Range:
$150,000 - $170,00K/ + Equity

Benefits:
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Generous paid time off, company holidays, and parental leave
  • 401(k) plan with company match (100% on the first 3% of contributions, 50% on the next 2%)
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and Health Savings Accounts (HSA) options
  • Commuter benefits (transit and parking)
  • Short-term and long-term disability, and life insurance
